UPDATED:EQ settings on EPS for hip hop/r&b/techno listeners, try this.
THIS IS FOR THE E90M.
v2.0 update 8/10/11 Before you go run out and try this, or blow it off, here's at least somewhat of an explanation behind my choice in settings. First off, I listen to music with somewhat heavy bass, as described in the title. I like it to hit with some force, and to be crisp as possible. I'm not an audiophile, I am not a professional, I have no special equipment. This is just based on what I thought my playlist on my iphone sounded the best with. I don't like music coming from the front, like an in your face thing, so I move it towards the rear a bit. This is especially when I drive. I even find it that even my shifting gets messed up when I drive with music blasting in my face. It's too distracting for me. The EPS seems to be tunable only for certain volume levels. If you like to listen to quiet calm music, this setting is not for you. If you like to listen to music that will some others ears bleed, this is also not for you. I don't know exactly how to calibrate the volume setting, so I just counted the amount of clicks on the volume up button on the steering wheel. This setting seems to be optimal at 22-27 clicks. Unfortunately I tried this setting while the car was parked and the engine off. After about an hour of calibrating, my sensitivity has now dulled, so I stopped there. I decided to take it out for a spin, but obviously the bass level will go down with the vibration of the car and road noise etc etc.. I couldn't drive and calibrate it at the same time, so maybe later I'll tweak it a bit here and there. Anyway, let me know what you guys think. Treble: Full Bass: -3 from full Balance: 0 Fader: +2 towards rear Surround: ON 100 Hz: Full 200 Hz: -3 (- more for rock) 500 Hz: +1 1k Hz: +1 2k Hz: +5 5k Hz: +7 10k Hz: +9 Edit: to give you an example of what type of music was played, here a few songs I tried out.. Alicia Keys - if i ain't got you american boy akon/tpain - bartender B.I.G - big poppa blues traveler - hook clear blue water - oceanlab 50 cent - down on me the dream - falsetto TI - everything on me R kelly - im a flirt in this life - kaskade - mario fabriani remix kid rock- only god know why far east movement - like a g6 my chemical romance - welcome to the.... marques houston - naked flockaveli - no hands yellowcard - ocean ave .... you get the point v2.0 After using the speakers for a while, I guess I'm in the burn in phase of them, and the sound as changed a bit. I tweaked them just a bit more to my liking. There's only so much settings you can do with a naked ear at a single time. The more you do it at one setting, the more numb your senses become, and everything just cranks up. I noticed after a long session and going through a lot of songs, if I hear it the next morning it sounds like crap. Anyway, try this one out. PS: If you think it sucks, screw you. lol jk. I'm all ears for input. Treble:Full Bass: -3 from Full Surround: On 100: Full 200:-5 from mid 1: -2 from mid 2: +4 from mid 5: -3 from full 10: -3 from full

The bass control has a different center frequency and Q than the 100hz graphic. Seems OP tweaking based on this. By maxing the EQ he gets the bass back but with maybe a tighter 100-150 range and less woof.

in other words, crank it ALL THE WAY UP, then bring it 3 levels down.

the sound keeps changing even tho the settings have not changed.
I assume this is due to the speakers going through a burn in period. after those settle nicely, I'm sure the settings will change drastically.

This is the only way you get crisp highs. I tried it set lower, but everything just got muddy. Maybe after the burn in I would be able to turn it down. Also, this is was the only setting that worked for me when I turned down the music as well. That way, even when the music was on low volume, there was still some sense of clarity to it.

Anyway, try this setting for a few songs/days, then try your previous settings. Let me know how you feel after.

WTF IS A COMMIE PLOT?!
anyway... I assume he means the rear speakers are not as good? The reason why I chose them to be faded is because most of the time when I'm driving I don't like the music to be blasting in my face. This only hinders my concentration on the road, whereas if I have it slight faded to the rear, or almost a virtual sense of music being towards the sides, the music approaches more as a background music setting, and my focus is more towards the road, not more towards the music, then the road. With just the slight adjustment towards the rear, you don't lose the entire sound quality as if it were completely faded to the rear. You still have 95% of the sound quality that you can live with, along with almost the exact amount of bass kick. That's good enough for me. As we all obviously know, this is not the right answer, but merely a personal preference. I have been somewhat satisfied with this setting, and was just willing to share my experiences. I must say tho. I was expecting more from a 2000 dollar option. Them some would say, "well then just turn off the music and concentrate only on the road" Then I'd say "to each his own," and "screw you." lol.jk.

It means he thinks rear speakers should be outlawed entirely. Most high end systems concentrate on the sound stage in front of you because when you're at a concert, all the action is in front of you. The only sound that comes from behind you is a reflection of the sound that came from in front of you unless you're sitting right in the middle of the band. In general, I agree that rear speakers have little use other than letting the people sitting in the back seat hear something unless you're running a system that has 5.1 surround capabilities.

Please elaborate on your personal setting. I'd like to try your preference as well, as I still don't think my settings are perfect, but only a slight improvement over the stock setting.
OH. and this is for the E90.

While everyone may or may not agree on the best settings, we should at least give the OP some credit for trying on his own. He obviously put some time into coming up with these settings which is more than a lot of other people have done. If you have other suggestions, feel free to post them so we can learn collectively.
Sound quality is a very subjective thing so there will be no one right setting for everyone but if more people post what they feel works best for them, you can take bits and pieces of different settings to come up with what works best you.
