Can I wear this?

I want to know if I can wear my black dress watch with my merlot dress shoes? I'm wearing a grey pinstripe suit. I know that some people hate brown and black together. I don't mind it, but is there any reason why I couldn't wear it? I looked online and really didn't find much. GQ wasn't helpful either.

Do I think anyone is going to notice your black faced watch with merlot shoes, no. Merlot in my opinion is closer to black than brown anyways. But who am I to say, I'm partially color blind.

I dress professionally every day and believe it or not, I ask myself the same questions. Personally, I would wear black with a grey suit. Save the merlot for your navy suit. Enjoy.

I used to dress professionally every day, and thoughts like that used to cross my mind from time to time.

Now I realize that no, it doesn't matter if you wear a black watch with Merlot shoes and a gray suit. It's not important that you look absolutely perfect. The 1 person out of 1000 isn't going to do more than pause for a moment and think, "gee, look at that" before continuing on with whatever he was doing. Don't stress the small stuff, spend more time on the most important things.

Your watch strap, belt and shoes should match. If you are wearing merlot colored shoes and belt then the whole black wtach strap is going to throw it off. Try a metal band instead it's neutral and goes with everything.
