Ressurrecting an old thread / topic - I am about to purchase S04's over Pilot Super Sports (mainly because the Pilot Super Sports are on backorder until early december on Tirerack... bummer). For my 220M's on 2009 M3 E93.

Any regrets from anyone on S-04s?

I can't get over a 5lb weight increase per wheel on the spec sheet as compared to the PSS. I've always thought unsprung weight reduction was a big priority. Haven't heard anyone address that specifically with the S-04's. Keep in mind this is a vert so it's not like it's a lightweight track monster. That said, I do like it to handle exceptionally well.

No regrets. Last longer than PSS, and work better in the rain, too, while saving you a cool 3 bills per set of four.

Both of these are street tires and that's clearly where you intend to use them. You will never notice the extra weight, especially on a convertible.

Just ordered a set myself, will have them on later this week. Will report back but so far only read good reviews and the price is right! Unless you're tracking the car I doubt you'll notice the increase in weight.

I'm buying now from Tirerack. The PSS rear 19"s are on backorder until the end of the year... so I'm excited for 4 new S-04 shoes.

I drove on OEM 18 inch spec S-04s. On the street, you can't tell a difference between PSS and S-04. The major difference is wet traction, the S-04 felt better.

I think there's some bridgestone mail-in-rebate too btw, don't forget to get that too! Overall the S-04 is just much cheaper than the PSS in OEM sizes.

Also interesting that they mixed hardcore autocross specific street tires with summer daily driver tires. Glad the S04 got such a high score though.

These rebates are pretty frequent throughout the year, sorry about your luck that you bought them when it wasn't offered.

The S04 got 2nd place mostly b/c it was a good all-rounder but did nothing exceptionally well. I would still buy PSS anytime they go on sale, but if you're in a crunch for time or money, S-04s are a very good tire. I think for OEM 18s they are actually cheaper (including rebates) than the Hankook V12s which is the best budget tire.

The V12s are indeed a nice budget tire, but the sidewall is a tad soft, especially if you go with 20" wheels. I hear good things about the Toyo T1S tires, so those will be the next set I'll try.

Got a set of oem 19" size s04's put on my wife's E90, so far so good. Ride feels a tad harsher over bumps than the Conti's that came on the car but the grip is good and the road noise is pretty good so far. Not a bad tire for 895 out the door installed.

Well... I bought em, had them installed at the local BMW dealer for $200 (50 a wheel), rims are unscathed, and i went on a 500 mile road trip this past weekend. Love them. No regrets. I could swear that they are a bit louder than the Pilot Super Sports that were on there... but whatever. They are 2 thumbs up so far for me.

Went S-04's after OEM; very happy with purchase. I tracked the OEM conti as well as the S04 and while the tires got a bit greasy after 5+ laps I think the OEM brakes stared giving up first.

I disagree with the weight issue. Not on my M3, but with a 350Z I used to own a few years back, I went from brdgestone to Michelins and saved 7 lbs per rear tire and 4 lbs per front tire. There was no difference in street performance, but the improvement in ride quality with the lighter tire was very noticeable.
