Fuel pump problem, dealer denies

Went to the dealer the other day, and the "Tech noted that vehicle idled poorly and in engine failsafe when vehicle driven into shop".

It looks like my Fuel Pump is bad, but when I asked the my SA about, he says 'its fine'.

I don't get it.... so are they changing it or not? The Tech who worked on your car said the pump needs to be changed but the SA is sending you home without doing the work???

Yeah, confusing I know.

When I got the invoice sheet, I asked my SA if my pump was bad. He said 'no, the tech would have told me about it."

Unfortunately, I couldn't talk to the tech.

What do you guys think? Is my fuel pump bad, sort of paranoid now.

I don't get it, your SA says its fine but the first line says Cause: High pressure pump HDP Permanant Malfunction? I'm no expert but I'd say that says it right there.........

yeah, I wasn't sure. If it was that obvious, I was wondering why he ignored it.

Not sure if its worth going to another dealer, and asking them. Maybe someone here could give another explanation.

I'm no expert on this stuff but it looks like they replaced the front fuel pump.

Middle of the page reads "Replacing high pressure pump" and the bottom of the page reads "replaced front fuel pump". It could be they put in a new fuel pump to test and found there wasn't any difference so they put your old pump back in (I'm guessing). Is the car running better now? Everything is back to normal? If so dont worry about it. Its under warranty & you have it all documented.

If you are losing sleep call your SA and ask again. If he answers "its fine" ask some followup questions for more clarification such as: What was done to diagnose the problem? What were the conclusions of why your car idled poorly and was in engine fail-safe? Or ask him to explain what the items on your diagnostic sheet mean. If the car is running better & without warnings something must have been done. Its not like they kicked the tires and the car started running smoothly erasing all engine fail-safe errors.

Did you experienced these problems or was it the tech that first found the car idled poorly?

yes it was done! our dealership uses the same computer system. the invoices are super hard to read. every n/c on the right side is for ... the diag labor,the part,the core fee and the labor for the pump r/r. hope that helps.

Strange it describes the pump as delivering too much pressure. Does anyone know what the actual cause for the pump would be? Would rotting internal seals cause too much pressure if they rotted and clogged the internal mechanism? Would lack of good detergents keep the pump clean internally and not enter an overpressure situation?

did they check out the pressure sensors themselves? weve had issues with that fault before and diagnosis says pump but it was pressure sensor...

not sure, because my SA told me nothing was wrong. But, another SA may think they changed it...

the only way of knowing is talking to the tech who examined my car, in the first place. i'll try again tomorrow.

Is there any way to tell if the fuel pump has been replaced by looking at it? I remember when I had a 740i and the engine blocks were being replaced left and right, it was possible to tell if you had a replacement by reading some numbers etched in the block..... just wondering if there is something similar for the fuel pump?

It was replaced. There are labor ops for checking faults, and replacing. I do this all day.
