I drive a C6 and it is already far ahead of M3's performance level, a car that I love.
Vette is just so much ahead on performance that there is no excuse, ifs and buts about its superiority. Vette is the ultimate and absolutely best dollar for performance, period... There is no comparison. M3 should not even be tested. it is a different kind of car, one that still will give you smiles across the board in all things, a jack of all trade. the scary thing (and a good thing) is that vette caught up in that category as well, being pretty much European quality in the interior. Vette FTW, no doubt about it. M3 will still be revered and loved, yet American ingenuity is whooping its ass and its been a while that this was so... |

I think the Vette is a nice car, and I would have included it in my list of possible alternatives to the M3, but 2 seats? I'm sorry, but there are too many occasions where I need more seats unless I only use the car for driving to work and have a separate car for the days where I need to go to a friend's place after work, for example, and drive a few people somewhere.
I only wanted to buy one car, so it was cheaper. One M3 is cheaper than one Vette + another car.

If it was, GM didn't pay well because they still concluded the M3 was a better DD choice.
I find it funny when people claim fraud or paid when the result isn't what they want. If the C7 didn't wipe the floor performance wise it would have been a failure for the C7. The C6 would be a faster car let alone a C7. I would wager the M4 won't put up these numbers either. But really, so what? The M3 is an amazing car and for many a better car. I loved, LOVED, my E92 M3. If I had enough $$$, I would have an M3 (or M4) for Monday to Friday and the C7 for the track/weekend. People need to be less defensive As some have said, it's kind of an academic comparison in any event. One is a 2 seat sports car that is very track oriented and the other is a 4 person sporty coupe/sedan that has performance approaching to more dedicated sports cars.

lol @ the butt hurt fanboys complaining.
Who cares if the M3 lost? I love mine and like seeing it still being compared to the leading performance cars out there. Some of you are really insecure. |

As a M3 fan and current owner of the E92 M3, i don't feel the least bit upset with this comparo. I thot the journalists were very kind and appreciative towards the M3. The Vette is a single minded car designed for one purpose, that's raw performance though this latest generation seems to have caught up in other areas. I think some of u guys should probably read the article again. In fact, it made me that much more appreciative of my M3. I know my M3 was never meant to go up against a Vette, but that it did and held its own outside the track is tantamount to its depth in strength.

LOL the then New Audi RS4 was compared to the old E46 M3. Remember this?
Its normal to compare the new car on the block with the old one. It just means the old one was such a champion that car manufactures tried hard to make something better and a comparison is inevitable. They are not practically comparable but they still are both cars that people are looking at and considering to buy. Not everyone buying an M3 or C7 is married or has kids. And some people are looking for a second car so for them the two seater comments are irrelevant and moot. I drive a 2 seater now and love it. I have no kids so the C7 is actually a consideration for me even though I've been a long time BMW fan. BMW used to make naturally aspirated, light, and high reving engine sports cars. Now they are a lot heavier, forced induction and changed with the times and the competition I guess. Given the choice between the M4 and the C7 I would not hesitate for a second to get the C7 and I love the new M4. But $80K+ for a 4 series withe options is rediculous. The Z07 will obliterate almost anything on the road or track. I'm truly impressed with everything about this car but I only wish it wasn't 200lbs heavier. I also hope they would consider to add is a dual clutch transmission down the road for lightning fast shifts. Who knows...

Agreed, I didn't feel the article was a repudiation of the M3 or BMW at all, despite "losing" in performance comparison, so don't know why some are so touchy about it. Up until this point, and I hope this is the case in the future, BMW's driving experiences have exhibited timeless qualities. I just look at my old E46 330i from 2003 and it offers a better driving experience vs the vast majority of new cars today costing $30-40k..even though its not faster by any means. I hope BMW continues in producing cars that offer something unique and relevant 5-10 yrs later or beyond. With the E9x M3 (further confirmed by this article) I would say it resoundingly succeeded!

Watching the video on their site, I hope they didn't measure the M3's 0-60 time off that shoddy launch they did. With DCT and launch control, the M3 does 0-60 in 3.9s, not 4.9 lol!

After having owned 2 M3s I just don't think I could give up the perfect blend of performance, comfort, utility, and female appeal The wife LOVES my M3, she has hated every other sports car I have had, some of which were much faster than my M3.
Performance used to be the only thing I cared about but the M3 made me a convert (that and getting a little older!). Don't get me wrong, if I could get more performance and keep the utility and comfort of the M3 I would. But I don't know a car that offers it which I would be fine to DD.

kind of a narrow minded comment ? They compare these cars for fun, they are both expensive sports cars. might not be direct competitors though. |
