My Car Drinks Oil.....

My new '11 drank 1 qt. of oil in the first 1,100 miles. Is that unusually high? My '08 would take almost 4k to drink that much.

Are you sure it was full when new? Also remember a new engine tends to consume a bit more than normal, but should level off. My '08 has never been lower than full, but the most miles I've put on the oil is 4K. But that's great news still .

My car since August 2010 has not drank any oil. Drank nothing before it's break in service and nothing since then.

Car was broken in hard and dyno'd at 343 RWHP stock.

My 2010 M3 drank oil like water. Although the more miles I've put on it the less oil she's drank. Im at around 16000 miles. The first time I needed to add a QT was under 2,000 miles. I think it all depends on how hard you drive as well.

They will top you off for free if you are under 15k miles... after that you have to pay.

Also check around the filler cap, they sometimes leak.

Mine lost a half a liter in two weeks before I noticed the drip lines.

The gear throws oil up against the cap really hard at high rpms and
the gasket on the cap doesn't always seal.

Guess it more depends on the dealer and the relationship you have with them.
i guess my dealer does not do this... I called BMW NA and they said its dealer discretion... WTF...

Almost 1 year of ownership on my '11 M3 with 9700ish miles. My baby has only needed 1qt of oil.

I guess it varies from car to car.

Well in Munich when I picked up mine I notice on the software that it was showing that it had used up about a quart of oil so in Switzerland took it to BMW an the said it need a quart and it was normal since it was new. Well a day later heading toward Frankfurt I got a warning saying I had to much oil.

I immediately got the 1,200 miles service and have had no problem since then. Just an FYI.
