Why no brake wear?

I am at 70k miles on my 08 6MT and still have 6mm left on the original factory brakes, front and rear. Is this normal or a sign that I am driving like a granny?

FWIW, I have an '08 with plenty of life on them still, I don't track though.

If you take it to the track and you will roast them in no time

LOL, it is so true. I have had my car for 4 years/32k miles and drove through the Calgary roads and still have a good 40% left.

It could be a sign you're a good driver.

I rarely use my brakes and have 60% left on both front and rear pads and I am at 50k miles. Westbrook BMW was asking how often I use them and I tell them I down shift everywhere and rarely use them.

Letting engine braking do its job and looking ahead do wonders for brake life. I'm at 48,500ish miles and still only about 2/3 of the way to the sensor on the original brakes with a lot of autocross and spirited street use. People bin them for big brake kits all the time but if it's truly a street car these brakes will last a really long time, look at the typical Ford GM or Honda product designed for mass consumption that weighs ~3500lbs and the brakes are typically 20% smaller. Hell the brakes on the M3 are bigger than the brakes on my 3/4 ton Ram which weighs 5800lbs and has an 8700 GCWR, rated to tow more than 11,000lbs. 14", 1.25" thick rotors on just about anything are overkill for street use.

Agreed. Sometimes the folks behind you don't like it but such is life.
