Offer to take people to lunch occasionally, and drive. When they ride around with you, they'll understand why you love the car (don't give your opinion, let them make one), and that has, for me, gotten people to "get it" and feel a bit more compassion than ridicule.
Oh, and then if they are still jerks, leave them on the side of the road somewhere right before you check-out on a Friday. - V .

I never had to deal with this since all the years I drove an M3 I was my own boss. Before that I drove nice cars and everyone knew I was a car nut.
Besides I don't care what others think ... The M3 is such versatile car most people see it as a BMW 3 Series only we and a few others know for sure So follow other people's advice here in this thread ... Drive it, enjoy it, you work (or may have worked for it). So it's very simple you deserve it ! Others spend there money on other hobbies, bars mistresses whatever ... Who cares just enjoy what you worked for and have ... Safe travels ... Always

Every day! I work at a major hospital and clinic so it pretty much fits in but strangely its about the nicest car I ever see in the garage or lot. I'm at a non-prof academic institution so not much wealth as far as healthcare goes. Most people don't prioritize spending on their vehicles and they think you're crazy if you're spending more than $300/mo on a car. One of the main reasons I went with M3 is that for the unknowing, it's just a BMW.
My wife drove it to work one day and her CFO walked to the garage with her and saw it. Apparently he gave her all kinds of sht over it and it pissed me off because he's in charge of salaries and that's rather inappropriate. I almost called the guy but that would not have ended up well. |

Rich is relative. To someone earning $20k a year, even a low 6 figure income is "rich". If you have a household income of greater than $100k, you are in the top 20% of US households. To someone in the bottom 20%, that is rich.

I drive the M3 to work most days unless the weather is unusually bad. I do get some grief from customers. "Nice car I must be paying you too much". It used to bother me a little but I don't care as much anymore. I usually say something just as smart ass back like keep working hard some day you will be successful. These are people with much nicer houses than mine and 2 kids in college.
I think it comes down to the fact that most people don't prioritize their spending on cars. I have found that lots of people don't know what an M3 is. |

The more I read this thread the more upset I get.
I'm not sure I'd want a job where my boss felt he\she had the right to be critical of my choice of vehicle and any co-workers who gave me shit could kiss my ass. I chased my dream down and got an M3... no one tramples on my dreams!!! damnitalltohellMerica!

I will be buying 08-09 sedan in a couple of months and it will be my daily driver, i have a 4 yr old son so it will also have a booster seat in the rear for my little buddy. I'm going to be using it in the winter and here in Manitoba the temps can be brutally cold ( -30c to -40c ) so time will tell how the car will handle that kind of enviorment ( will be parked inside over night). I am so excited i can hardly wait to own one!

My CEO has McLaren F1, LFA, R8, and other toys, so I don't feel bad about driving my M3 to work the parking lot is filled with anything from beaters to exotics, so nobody will judge you negatively because of what you are driving.

Drive mine to work every day....actually that's the reason why I chose this car: high, sports-car likely performance in a practical, versatile daily driver/usable package. I know a lot of people in very different industries, and I've seen potential issues pop up when 1) you visit clients and work for a bank, non-for-profit, or sell products/services to customers that are expensive; 2) you work for another automobile company.
In certain industries, such as Law or Medicine, driving a prestigious car may actually be a sign of success and help you....ie would people be more likely to hire a defense attorney or heart surgeon who drives a 1990 buick or a 2010 mercedes? Guess it all depends on the specific situation |

This does bother me a bit. People do notice and pay attention to nice cars in the parking lot. I have a group I go out to lunch with quite a bit, and there's this one guy in the group that always seems to harp on about people's rides. After I get my M3 in April, and it's my turn to drive, I have no doubt he'll have something to say. My current DD is an S5, which he called the "swagger wagon" for quite awhile. LOL, another friend of mine and I played a joke on this guy once. Shortly after I got my S5, she actually got an Infiniti G37S. We thought it would be funny to take "swagger" out into the parking lot, show him the G, and make him believe I had both the S and the G! Ha ha...he bought it, hook, line, and sinker! We meant to actually break the joke off before the end of the day, but got too busy and forgot. The next morning I came in, and found out he'd told my boss that "I make too much money"! Sonofabitch...none of his damn business what I make! Anyway, he's going to lose his mind when the M shows up, in a couple months!
Still, though, you gotta drive these babies. They weren't meant just to decorate your garage! Last edited by ///WeissBisBlau; 01-20-2013 at 09:59 PM.. |

Every day. Life is too short to spend any time worrying about what other people think of your decisions.
An aside: To every owner who bought an M3 as a status symbol, and not to enjoy every second driving it: You're doing it wrong.
