Skyline Run VII - April 3rd

DATE CHANGE: Sunday April 3rd! Meeting location will be at Stone Ridge Village Center, Stone Ridge, VA
Sun
Apr 3

Partly Cloudy

Check it out DC: Skyline Run

Meeting Location:
Stone Ridge Village Center, Stone Ridge, VA
Usual spot behind the shopping center.

The cost of this event: Free.
All Euro sport/supercars are welcome.
Number of cars to expect (based on previous runs): 25-35
Total length: Around 120 miles.
Time: Around 4-5 hours including lunch.

Route: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=0...,1.054001&z=11

This run will be a reverse route of Skyline Run V. The first half of the drive will be smooth, pretty, with bursts of speed depending on the locals. We'll start out in Middleburg, VA at 10am and cruise down some of the most beautiful roads in VA until we get to Front Royal, VA. Lunch will be at the traditional Melting Pot Pizza (cash only). The run will pick up from there on fast, lineless, twisty back roads. These roads usually have very little to no traffic which means we can be very 'spirited'. This will bring us all the way back to Middleburg and then a little further to Stone Ridge, VA where we'll stop. Addresses are in the route plan posted above.

Why start out with the smooth roads? As some of us know, the supercar/vintage drivers aren't fond of tight back roads which can have uneven/broken surfaces. This, hopfully, will encurage those drivers to come along for the first leg, enjoy lunch, and then do what they wish for the return trip while the rest of us push the limits on back roads.

Can't seem to find the post, but I remember hearing that the X5M was faster around the ring than the M5, if that's the case I'd love to see it maybe it sits between the handling of the E9X's and M5 Either way I'd love to see it on skyline

you sure about that?

both are stock, and the M5 is a touring. This is straight line, not sure about the ring or twisties...

seems X5M has more torque but it has to deal w/ its weight, etc.

///M5 Time: 8:13
X6 ///M Time: 8:24

http://petrolsmell.com/2010/04/20/nu...est-lap-times/

It is worth noting that the M5's time was set in 06 when the M5 came with Contisport tires, had they done the test again in 08 when the M5 came with PS2s I'm sure it would've been near 8 flat

Not trying to scare you but I got a set of the same tires to the same size (275 rear) for one of the drive. My car felt unstable in hard turns and the traction control light lid up like Christmas lights. It never happened when I had my PS2 on these runs. I swapped them out for the PS2 after that and it was a world of difference. I'll never leave the PS2 again.

Has anybody driven this route recently (past week or so)? Just wondering about the road conditions. Hopefully that heavy rain we had last week washed away most of the sand DOT uses to treat the roads during the winter.

If your flight is from Dulles then you'll be fine. We're usually done around 3:30pm and it's right next to Dulles.
