think bmw or the experts recommend same size at all four corners for best traction and control...

From what I have read for deep snow a square stance is best but for a sportier feel and English winter conditions staggered rules.
Staggered is closer in handling and feel to normal/summer setup. Car will probably feel awful in just damp conditions on square setup compared to staggered.

Have a read over on the us tyre forum loads of discussion on there.
Deep snow 18s with 40 profile all round is best.

Fitted the Vred Wintrac Extreme's to my M3 a few weeks ago - they are awesome in this weather with plenty of grip and no traction light flashing!!

The car was undriveable last year on PS2's so a huge difference

Fitted 235/35/19 to front and 255/35/19 to rear (just a 10mm drop down in size front and rear)

£660 for all four:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Ordered at 3pm, tyres delivered 9am following morning!

Work next door to an indi tyre fitter - Can't recommend these tyres highly enough but did need a couple of hundred miles to scrub them in before they were fully effective.

+1 on the wintracs...not sure what the michelins are priced at but the vreds are great value at £160...cheaper than camskills who didn't have any stock....

only con seems to be a little more road noise and finding somewhere to store the 19"s and 20"s (i didn't buy from a dealer - apparently they'll store your spare set for you)

but the benefit of cutting through ice and snow as well as grip in wet and watching the suprised faces of others around you is well worth it...

only concern with current stock levels (dealers are waiting on germany for updates) is what happens when one gets a puncture...

winter tyres seem to be gold dust...

Nice pics - have you had a chance to try them out today - and out of interest did you go for the option where bmw store your original set of wheels for you and if so is that option included in the initial price or is there an ongoing fee and a changeover cost every time you change over?

Enjoy the bewildered look from other drivers as you pass them!!

Thanks bej.

Yes tried them today ... was up and down the M1.
Need some snow to try them on now

Yes went for the option where BMW store the original wheels for £20 + VAT and there is no charge to swap over in Spring.

Yep, this is my second winter with my PA3's and they're brilliant.. Bought a cheap set of 18" wheels for a square set up of 245/40.
