Tread gone after 13k miles

I swapped out my perf conti sport contacts 2 for my winters last week. Finally managed to snap a photo of the rears. They are bald as can be. Lasted 13k miles and I am stunned. I dont do donuts, spin out, smoke em', ect... I drive the autobahn on occasion hitting 250kph (150mph) but other than that, normal driving. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Are they rated at lasting less than 15k miles? I am shopping for new tires for next season now and I can tell you one make that isnt going on the car...

Both rears are like this; fronts could go another season easily.

Based on my experience 13k miles is within the "normal" range of the stock rear tire wear rate. I'm currently running PSS tires on my '12 and '09 M3s, and based on current tread depth and miles traveled, I'm estimating that I'll get ~20k miles out of both sets of PSS tires. My stock 18" PS2s lasted ~14k miles of street-only driving - this pretty much agrees with Michelin's statement that the PSS wear rate is much better than the PS2 wear rate.

I wish I could get 13k out of a set. My AD08's are 1/3 life left after 4-5k and ~6 track days.

I have 13.5k on the conti's and I think I could get another 2k - but these tires are total crap. Winters are going on over the weekend, and Mich SS on in the spring.

Got 275 conti slicks in my back seat right now actually. OP, 13k is pretty normal. PSS last much longer.

Not helping much if they are sitting in the back seat

I'm debating between trying a set of "take off" R1 or Conti slicks in a 275 square setup. I've had great success in the past using PSCs (still street-able!) on my old e46 M3 so I'm also considering a PSC 265/285 setup (prefer square).

They'll be on the car Saturday morning bright and early at Roebling, I definitely can't drive there on them so the back seat is their home until then. I'm in the same boat, I will probably end up with r comps at some point rather than the slicks. I have ran both a lot, and even though the slicks are faster the r comps are so much fun sliding around. I like R1's pretty well too, Hoosier grip with more life. Conti slicks don't like slip angle. I've got 18x10 apex's with 275 slicks all around. Hopefully the stoptech street pads are up to the task...

That's nothing...these came off a buddy's E46 M3

A penchant for drifting may have accelerated the tire wear however

Huh...you think that's a wear problem? Looks like he could get another 5k miles out of them

Sounds good - enjoy and be safe!

Personally, I've had tons of fun with the PSC and being able to drive to-from the track, with extra track wheels/PSCs in the car, is worth the "price" of giving up a little bit when it comes to ultimate lap times...

I'm a PFC pad guy so I have no experience with any of ST's street or track/race pads. From what I've read on the forum it sounds like a lot of people use that ST pad as a dual-purpose pad without any major issues.

for the OP:

As others have noted, 13K miles right in the range of what you should expect from the OE tires in normal driving. Some people don't see more than 10K.

If I see past 10k miles out of a set of tires, I'm happy.

I have about 12K on my rear Conti DWs and I think they will last another 2k.

Such is life on our M3's. Even with the 30K mileage warranty with the PSS's, you'll still only get around 10 - 15k depending on conditions.

Does the michelin warranty have an exception on mileage warranty for high powered cars? If not, I see free tires for life...seriously

The 30k warranty is halved to 15k in the case of staggered setups. And they have exclusions for abuse and such (otherwise people would track them and go have them replaced after a few days on Michelin's dime). Finally, a particular person can only use this program for 4 tires in their lifetime (or at least for a given name/address combination in their database).

Believe me, I checked into all of this

I must be the exception to the rule. Got 30k out of my PS2s and I currently have Vreds on 20s that have 29k on them. Looks like they got at least another 5k miles on them but I'll probably change them soon because noise is becoming an issue. With the PS2s, the front and back wear was pretty close but with the Vreds I notice the back wearing a bit faster than the front.
