There are a lot of rumors about high maintenance. Maintenance really isn't that bad. Of course you don't get free maintenance like BMW, but that's the case with most cars. Oil changes are around $150-200 every 6000 and the 2012 doesn't need the transmission oil change until 36000 miles. It has scheduled service checks, called performance optimazation services, which are free of charge. My buddy has a 2010 and he has spent a total of around $400 on general maintenance with over 15000 miles. The car has been very reliable. Of course if you track the car, it can get expensive .

I see that you disconnected the driveshaft for the front.
Do you drive the car now in RWD? OR just did it for dyno tuning? Nice car and that's some monster power your putting down man! |

I'm seriously thinking of getting a GTR. The 2012 is just amazing.
Mike, did you change the exhaust tips? I really like the look of the stock outlets. |

This general sentiment that Nissan could potentially walk away from warranty repairs on parts that could cost between 10-20k, was due to Nissan's initial reaction to the launch control issue, and voiding warranties on a handful of cars. But as one of the resident GT-R lovers stated, comparitively (performance competitor's) it's not that bad. |

They are not voiding the warranty that easily anymore. Tires are more expensive than the M3, but the stock summer run flats are $550 each....not 2k for two. That's BS. Transmission will likely be fine. They are no longer voiding tranny warranties for using launch control. A few have had tranny issues in the past, esp on the 08s, but that has been fixed and is the rare exception. Most track their cars without any issues. If you go on the GTR forum, you can get more info....many happy owners.

If you go OEM from the dealer, then yeah.
However, since they are wear-and-tear items (expendables, like oil and tyres), they are not covered under warranty regardless... so no reason you can't go for after-market. Especially when after-market upgrades are a lot cheaper than OEM stock. Quote:
Upgraded rotors are about $2550. http://www.stillen.com/product.asp?i...SAN&model=GT-R Pads will run you around $300 for street http://gt-rr.com/product.html?m=endl...ompound&id=142 http://gt-rr.com/product.html?m=endl...ompound&id=143 Around $850 for street + light track. And 'off-road, track' pads are all over the place price wise. Usually $1000+ (some name brand stuff being $stupid). http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...ype=bestseller Tyres are gonna be $2.2K for all 4. Less if you go with the Bridgestones. So basically around $5K+ for tyres and brakes, depending on what you want to spend extra on. However, rotors don't need replacing very often, and you'll go through a few sets of pads before you replace rotors... So that cost does go down a bit. You can also go with a square tyre setup, and rotate, which will extend your tyre life by a good while. -scheherazade Last edited by scheherazade; 07-19-2011 at 01:53 PM.. |

While there are cost saving methods, I find it funny that GTR owners think that if something goes WRONG, it will be affordable to fix. It's simply not true, you blow out 4 20inch performance tires, or you bend a GTR rim, or you need new brakes. It's coming at 'exotic' prices. Until the GTR clears 100k, the pricing and upkeep of the GTR will be an anamoly. |

Basically, if you track the car, you may be paying near supercar prices for brakes and tires, but the upkeep on exotics are higher. Think about the total cost of ownership and depreciation with one of those vs the performance and total cost of a GTR..... Last edited by erio; 07-19-2011 at 04:46 PM.. |

I just listed the prices for parts. How is any of that stuff unaffordable? What's your idea of 'exotic prices'? Quote:
Of that, about $300 comes from two oil changes. $100 comes from a custom transmission calibration, where I took the tech for a ride and he tweaked stuff over OBD as we drove around. The periodic tune-ups are covered under warranty. Just daily driving the car, it's been very reliable, and quite easy to maintain. I'm very happy with the GTR. My tyre wear looks to give around 15k miles per set, given one rotation. That's about 15 cents per mile in tyre wear. The rotors are massive, and it will take a while to wear them out on the street. The car weighs the same as a 335, and comes with way more brake surface. I figure I may need to change rotors every 3 years. About $50 bucks a month when taken over time. I'll go through a few sets of pads in that time, but again, it's not big money for a few sets of pads over a few years time. I have a short commute, so my trans/diff oil changes will be every 21 or so months. AFAIK that's $1800 over 21 months, about $85 bucks a month. All together, tyres, rotors, trans oil, oil, (no pads), comes in at : $282 a month. We can say (assuming half-race, half-street pads) that I'll spend another $25 a month on pads, so all in all, around $300 a month to maintain the car while under warranty. Out of warranty, you'll at least have to add the labor of a tune-up - which is about an hour's labor. You can say it's about $3.7k a year to maintain, taking into account consumables (but not fuel). -scheherazade Last edited by scheherazade; 07-19-2011 at 06:00 PM.. |

Yeah it would. I think the comparison was a little silly but its Top Gear.
The Jag is just an altered GT car. It stood no chance against the GTR. GT3RSs and GT2s struggle against the Nissan.
