I might need some help @ Carolina Motorsports Park

I just received word that I am accepted for a competion that Speed is taping at CMP on the May 8th.I will probably tow down here from Toronto so I can bring 2 sets of mounted tires which are limited to non R compound street tires. From what I understand that it will be time trails against "Muscle Cars"on the road course.Anything that I should know about CMP and are there any track days that I could attend shortly before this date. There is $10000 money to win so I am taking this fairly seriously. This should be a pile of fun

Wish i was closer so I could come out and watch. I've done somewhere around 1000 laps of the short course and another 100 or so on the full course.

Very little elevation change, 3 hard braking zones and one pretty long straight following a fast right sweeper. The long straight has a kink in it that can unbalance the car if hit wrong. Most seem to lift just slightly so the car's more neutral. It's a not very techinical, and should be easy to learn after a few laps. It also seems to flow well with only a few slow corners.

There are some very good laps on YouTube so you can probably get a good feel from there. That usually works for me on flat tracks.

There are a bunch of other members on here who have been to CMP a lot and can offer some additional advice.

Oh and don't stay at the Executive Inn, it's a dump. Go over to Camden or stay at the track.

Agree with Brainofjjj. CMP can be very hard on brakes. When my E92 was new, 1500 miles, with stock everything, I ran out of brakes in two laps. The track is small, thus very little for time for brakes to cool. And spot on re overnight accommodations. No place near the track, so plan of staying in or near Camden, or another location.

You may wish to check on Motorsports Reg site. Somewhere on Youtube I posted a vid of my day at CMP. I will see if I can find a link.

Good luck

I clicked the thread to post this. CMP is brutal on brakes. Youtube is wonderful for learning the line at any track and CMP has a good selection on there.

My 2c: Turn 8 can be taken faster than you think because it is on camber, and stay the hell away from the T14 gators because they are known to puncture tires and screw up alignments (very large and not safe to track out onto).

Are you doing that competition that they were talking about on NASA forums awhile back where they pit american cars against europeans? IIRC they were wanting to put like Cup style stock cars against NASA level BMW's, not fair...

I just found out that I need to be at the track from the 9th to the 14th if I make it to the finals which of course is my intention.I have some big changes going on at work which were announced this AM and may start in this time period so I might have to rethink this.Hell! everything always seems to happen at once!

CMP is really, really, really hard on brakes.

However hard you think it is on brakes, it's twice that hard.

Turn 10 is nothing more than a slight bend in the long back straight, if you bite too much curb, you'll regret it.

Search youtube for "we the people GTR crash CMP".

I think there's something to the above comment about pitting highly modded domestics against more lightly modded typical HPDE euros.

They asked a friend of mine with a modded M6 to do it. They said they were looking for 20-35 yo euro drivers and 35+ yo domestic drivers. What the hell difference does their age make!?

Anyhow... good luck and I hope you have a ton of fun... maybe even win some cash!

Not my wife but big changes at work which I found about on Thursday night which I am really happy about as I have been pushing for this for quite a while and it is time to step up.To be away at this time to help with this major transition might not be a very smart thing to do business wise.To be away 7 days right now with all that is going on,I am afraid that this will not work out to go

No more so than anything else that I do

The real issue is work as the start date for the move could be as soon as before month end. When I first e mailed about being on the show I did not know the dates.May _ June is usually my busiest time of the year.I can afford toys from working hard at my job not by trashing & being quicker than rednecks!

Rednecks? Hummmm, nah, don't think I'll go there. However, if you can get out of the snow, y'all come on down anytime

I just saw this thread. It's been 5 years since I've done CMP but I'm signed up for 5/12 in between your rounds of competition.

A friend is in it so I gave him my tips. One note for sure. Turn 11, the kink. Don't lift in the turn. If the back gets light, you spin. Lift or brake before the turn, and then light power thru it. You can see one of my E39 M5 videos here: http://vimeo.com/user329303/videos

CMP June at the bottom is the better one.

I got an e mail earlier in the week telling me I was out of the show as they did not have all my paperwork that was needed, which is just as well thanks to some significant work changes that I was probably going to cancel out.
So today I get a e mail from the shows producer apologizing for dropping me from this round of shooting and telling me that I will be a 1st pick for the next round of production.Hopefully I will have much more warning and make the timing work and be able to kick some Redneck butt

Definitely. It would be to your advantage to get some time on CMP before then.
