My SA said its impossible to retrofit an ashtray in the rear. True?

The worst thing for me and my M3 is when my backseat passengers want to smoke a cigarette. I have to hear them fiddle around with the sun shade and they never are able to let it drop gently. Im tired of having to run a vaccumm on my backseats and on the carpet. I never had this problem with my 320i as it came with the ash tray for the rear and I always assumed BMW put it in the M3 too.

So, I called my Service Advisor up and asked him if it could be done. He didnt ask anyone, he just said its not possible as they dont make the part for the m3.

I come here to the panel of experts on the M3 to answer this question: Is it possible to put the rear ashtray from a regular e90 in the M3?

Thanks guys

To answer your question.... who the f*** knows just go get one of those bean bag ash trays and toss it down in the slide open thing between the rear seats or get creative by filling the slide open deal with cat litter and have it cleaned every now and then. By the way love the avatar!

How about you treat the cause and not the symptoms?

Your friends should be more respectful of you and your property and not smoke in your car.

Well if im smoking, then why shouldnt they be able to? All my friends are competent enough to not burn my seats, and they all have enormous respect for my car as well. Its just unavoidable to have little bits of ash fly off the cherry as the wind hits it.

Putting the ashtray in would solve the whole issue as all windows would only have to be cracked about 2 inches so no wind is thrashing about in the car, and the ash lands in the ashtray as it should. Im just going to buy one on ebay and see what happens. Ill let you know if im successful.

Here, check out this diagram:
http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...25&hg=51&fg=35

Get one of the board sponsors to order the right parts (Tischer maybe?). You'll need the rear mask, ashtray, ashtray insert at a minimum.

If you want to get creative, get the mask with dual cig lighter sockets and wire them up. Several people have done this modification - just search for "happy robot" on the e90post forums.

Just put in 1 or 2 empty bottles w/ lid(s) in the retractable drink holder of the rear center armrest. http://realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.do?mo...29&hg=52&fg=20 With lid back on, it'll eliminate cig butts from stinking up the car when it's parked overnight.

I use an empty salad dressing bottle (oval cross-sectional shape, almost flattened) for cig butts to keep the smell to the minimum (the bottle is wedged in between the driver's seat and the center console, right in front of where the seat belt clips in).

No one is allowed to smoke, drink, eat, ... in my car. They can just sit and enjoy the ride.

Have you used the parked car ventilation to clear it out after you park? Works pretty good!

It seems like a common mod for three series. Has anybody with an M done it?

In addition to an ash tray, based on your sig, you should put some money aside for a bail bond. Rosedale folks aint smokin Marlboros in the back seat.
