Groundhog!

Got a groundhog under my front porch. Anyone have any previous experience in eliminating one?

No joke OP, YOU ARE FVKCED IF YOU DONT GET SOMEONE PROFESSIONAL. I live up in the hills and I spotted one 2 years ago. I let him go until I spotted over 50 holes in my 2500 sq ft backyard. They were about 20-30 of them and they ate all the roots of my tree and fvcked up all my flowers and what not. I hate to say this but poison is the only way to get rid of them unless if you hire a guy.

Yeah I'm gonna try ammonia and moth balls tomorrow. I want this bastard gone. Already have a crack in the front walkway. I love animals as much as the next guy but if the ammonia doesn't work then I'm gonna go Caddyshack on his ass.

.223 usually works for me...but I shoot from 100 to 200 yards...in your case a .45 would probably do just fine

Here is what I do. I get out my Beretta and cap that thing all while sitting on my back porch, so far Ive taken out 3 since October.


Here is what not to do, coming from what happened to a friend of mine did. Do not try and sneak up on it and smash it in the head with a shovel because when you miss, and piss that thing off it'll proceed to chase you around the yard nipping at your heels while you try to get back in the house.

Got 6 this year with my HMR.17. Half the time I shot them from the window. They spook real easy. The one I got last week took off running. I waiting with the scope on the hole under the shed. Just before he got there he stopped to look around and boom. No more critter.

Yeah had one earlier this spring, a buddy and I set traps caged it and he disposed of it... Ony after the miserable thing chewed the magic eye for my garage door opener... which was a major piss off.

OP here are some information I gathered/ remembered.

Wherever those little pesky creatures are, every 5 by 5 plant a small piece of garlic (size of one of the keys of your keyboard) one inch into the ground. They hate the scent. Also, if you want to catch them what you have to do is cover all their holes and get a hose and let the water run their the only open hole. Stay there and be prepared the grab that sucker (where a glove for safety purposes) Last solution that i know of and by far the worst, is poison
Its these sticks that looks like dynamites. Cover all their holes with dirty and the last hole fire up the stick, throw it in the hole and dig up the hole so no smoke would be released anywhere.

Thats how I got them gone. I also did another thing but I dont think thats how I killed them (or maybe because its their food). I dug out all my flowers (all they eat is roots of plants and what not) and surrounded all the roots and stem of the flower/ plant around a small fence. This is my .02 cents. Please dont harm or torture the creatures though, they are soon to become extinct and are very nice creatures and its not worth killing them

UPDATE:

This is one bold ass varmint. Kids called me yesterday to say that the little bugger was sunning himself up on the front porch and had no fear of them when they opened the front door! He just starred at them. Only when the German Shepard saw him and barked did he scamper away.

Then about an hour after I got home I look out the front window and this little bastard is again sunning himself with his back to the door! Talk about arrogant. I opened the door and managed to take aim and put a pellet in his backside. Not enough to kill him but I wanted to confim his exit plan. Sure enough I have the right hole under surveillance.

Considering I'm in an urban location, a pellet gun is about as aggressive as i can get. I don't think the local police nor my neighbors would think too highly of me firing off +P+ 9mm rounds at a groundhog.

Gonna try to smoke him out.

you can cap them with a pellet gun, done it on the pass but requires you to be a good shot, and the fact the one you got hanging around does not run as soon as he see you will make it easy.

If you have a .22 cal pellet gun that you can pump up, will work the best, pull it all the way, and take aim at the back of it head/neck region, if you can hit him square in the middle of the neck you will soon have a dead groundhog on your porch.

Thanks. Nice to know the pellet gun could do the trick if necessary. I just now managed to sting him again. Little bastard wouldn't even move off the walkway for my daughter to go out and play! I think he is a bit pissed off because I loaded up his remaing hole with moth balls. He slowly crawled away after I stung him so maybe he got the message and wont to back.

No more groundhog. Didn't need to gas him nor shoot him to death, just waited for him/her to leave and then dumped a box of mothballs in the last unplugged hole. Little bugger didn't like the smell and hasn't been back.
