I've been offered 4k off msrp on a pretty much loaded 09 dct coupe. Should I hold out to see what January will bring?

I went ahead - but for ED in June. I am however holding out for financing rates to come down. 4Q & 1Q GDP are going to be really weak, so to the OP, yes, time is likely your friend.

Don't know if this is really true or not, but my dealer said that the 2008 leases will end come January. Leasing will only be available on 2009s and the '08s will be for sale only.

Yes, I know that's the official BMW FS line. And I expect that they will - for a while.

But unemployment / economy have not peaked / troughed yet. One of the best ways - as you know - to shift inventory is to set rates lower.

I also expect:

(1) monetary policy is headed to zero (is effectively there if you look at eff fed funds)
(2) as liquidity is pumped in and economy troughs, ABS spreads on auto loans could improve, making offering lower finance a better proposition for BMW FS - even if rates are lowered on M-cars.

And if BMW FS does not do re-offer low rates by mid-year, I will just go to my friendly credit union where I've had 3 car loans (all paid off) and I know I will be able to get 3.9% - or less depending on how low rates go in 2009.

Just got an update. Rates and residuals are going back in January. only on 08 models.

BTW, Navy FCU is still offering 3.5%, 36 months, on new car purchases

Does that mean the rates will be like 09s? Is BMW giving up on the 08s? Who will buy 08 if there's no incentive over the 09? I told the local dealership that I will stop by Christmas to see if the 09 sedan still there.

Based on what BMW just told us, the rates for 08's will be extended only for certain models. For example, M3 coupes will revert to STD end of the month. The sedans and Covertibles will revert end of January. Atleast, thats what I understood of it. I will double check tomorrow. There are some other models. But once these deadlines hit, they stated that the rates and residuals will revert for sure.

What would make people want to get it over a '09 for the same price?
