Ordered 09 E90 M3 - no production #

I finally sold my E46 M3 and I placed my order for my E90 M3 (AW, cloth, MDCT, Tech pck, 19's, iPod, BMW assist, fold down seats). I ordered it about a week and a half ago and I still don't have a production number. I asked my BMW advisor and he said sometimes they will release a production number when its already buillt. He told me it should be about 5 to 6 weeks from order date. This seems strange to me as many members on here have received their production number as soon as they placed the order.

Production Number

You should definitely get a production number before your car is built. If you order really early you may not get a production number if your dealer does not have allocation for your car yet. But, give the current market conditions, I would be shocked to hear if a dealer did not have enough allocation for an M3. They should have a production number for you, otherwise you don't really have a car on order yet.

The dealer should not be giving you a hard time on getting the production #. They should prove their worth and strength of their customer service.

I have heard stories of dealers when times were good doing stuff like this. They would take an order from you and not give you a production number. If a customer came along after you and they could make a more profitable deal with that person, they would bump you down the line. Since you had no production number they would get away with it.

I can't see the dealership not giving me the truth as I'm a repeat customer. I hope to get a production number by next week.
