Gauge graphic overlays on video?

Noob to videography, but wondered if there is a way you can add gauge graphics to in-car video? Like Speed channel but without all the crazy editing equipment they use.

I just got a Procede and wondered if I could use the data logs to feed the time/speed/rpm info to a tool that could render a dynamic graphic for my video?

is your video static? like, on a tripod/mounted? or are you handholding the camera?

and, you'll need a few types of software including, but not limited to:
1. to make your gauge with needle movement and all (3D software or flash, etc...)
2. after effects to composite it into the footage, or some other compositing software

if handheld, you'll need a matchmover to track it onto the footage.
if static, you can track it in after effects either frame by frame or by the motion tracker.

does any of this include the "crazy editing equipment" that you wish to not need?

Mounted camera, and no none of that is crazy Flash & After Effects looks like it will work perfectly.

I was afraid I'd need equipment like the stuff in this picture, don't have the money, need, or room for it. Thanks!

lol +1..

OP I actually did something like that a while back.. It is a bitch to animate gauges in 3D to make it look realistic. I've been doing it for a while and I had a hard time with it. The best option is to put a small hand held camera by the gauges and just mask out the rest of the shot since it's going to be static.

Good luck
