Apex ARC8 and PSS 265/35/18 clearance issues
Hello,
I am trying to install my Apex ARC 8 and Michelling PSS 265/35/18 tires and I'm having clearance issues. The rub is when turning the wheel to the right about 3/4-1 turn. The rub is on the fender closer to the passenger (rear of the car) the re arrow in the picture. I am running TC Kline SA with proper allignment specs. Someone suggested running less caster to solve clearance issues. Any ideas? The rims are 18x9.5 ET 22 Last edited by Superfly_M3; 03-26-2013 at 05:03 PM.. |

It's surprising that they are rubbing. My wheels have the same width and offset with 275/35/18 tires and I do not rub.

My 275 NT01s on 18x10 Arc-8s with with 5 mm spacers also rubs liner in the same place. Are you running front spacers? If so remove spacers and you will have more clearance. I have to run spacers because the NT01s also rub on inside against KW S/O collar.

Rubbing against KW S/O collars.

Weird how you are rubbing with those specs. Those are very mild.
I think the problem can be reduced with tire pressure (don't know what yours is set at). Adjusting caster seems like a good option, but I think you meant to say you need more positive caster, not less. Can you post a pic of the profile wheel well. How much room is there in the front?

I would not think yours would be rubbing on inside since you are only running 265s on 9.5" rims. Mine did not start rubbing on inside until I switched to adjustable KW S/O coils which sits lower than OEM. Then after adding 5 mm spacer to prevent inside rubbing, it started rubbing outside on fender liner at full lock. I have sinced raised spring collar 1/16" and switched to a 3 mm spacer which seems to work.

The first thing I would call into question would be caster. Almost always an alignment spec is off when someone encounters rubbing in a place others do not. 265 super sports on a 9.5" rim is conservative in comparison to the fitments that are clearing for countless members. I would start by confirming those, as we see specs being off all the time.
For some members rubbing is very minimal when it does occur (0.5-1mm overlap). In most cases with rubbing the plastic will clearance itself and it no longer after it has occurred a few times. Depending on the level of contact you are getting there, it may simple stop after a short period of time. I know this may not sound like the ideal solution, but if adjustments to your other aftermarket parts are not resolving the issue, a small rub mark on your plastic liner is usually the preferred price to pay in order to clear really wide tires. I'm sure you will find a resolution. |

That's about how much interference with the back of the fender liner I got when I test-fitted 315/30-18's on the front. Somethings wrong, I agree you probably have managed to jack up your caster somehow. What does "proper" mean?

"Proper" means everything is ayrie . Going in for alignment tomorrow, going to reduce caster to see if this helps. I don't have my previous alignment specs, but can pull them from the shop. In any case, I should be able to see what the specs are before and after tomorrow alignment, and if they correspond to the last settings. I'm not sure how much caster adjustability TCK SA have in terms of caster, but will play with the settings tomorrow.
Whats the difference (or even if there such a thing) between static and dynamic caster? I know that this issue is something dumb that can be easily resolved as many have run these rims and tires with 0 issues. Hopefully will get this resolved tomorrow. The profile if the front tire does not seem off. Here a quick picture of my current winter setup and ride height |

The fender liner is very easy to pop out of place, I would jack the car up and look at the liner and make sure it is properly secured. My car came, from the factory, with the liner bulged such that the first hard corner I took, I wore completely through the liner. BMW replaced it, and said it was installed incorrectly (which it was)

Fender liner is one piece and is not easy to remove. The shock has to be dropped in order to pull it out. Behind the liner, where the red arrow is, the is the frame of the car. If it was just the fender liner, I would not be concerned, I don't want to lock up or tear through a tire when I would rub
