Dealers begging to buy at invoice
I had my mind set on doing ED at 250 over invoice. But i really didnt want to wait for the 2010 model and end up getting it end of nov and then keeping it stored until the spring. But if i was to get the 2009 ED, i wanted it now and not september. So i decided to run the numbers and decide what i thought would be worthwhile if i bought the car in the us. So this week, i started contacting dealerships in the NY/NJ area inquiring about the e92 m3. I was shocked that they were all looking to sell their inventory m3's at invoice. No negotiating. "I want to buy invoice" and the response "Not a problem". So now I started talking about 500 or more under invoice - working on that now. I can end up getting paying an extra $4,000 but driving out the perfect car tomorrow and enjoying the rest of the summer. Taking into account the flight + hotel + food and random expenses for 10 days (for how long i would be able to go) i am paying a premium of about 2 grand. But driving the car all summer. Has any one else experienced such overwhelming leniency from the dealerships?

I am not surprised by this. The key is their "inventory M3s". The 2010s will be coming soon. I ordered my car back in March for $1K over invoice which I thought was a pretty good deal. I am sure I could have gotten closer to invoice if I purchased off the lot.

I ordered my 2009 E90 M3 for $56,000 Drive Out
Here's the break-down: BMWUSA Configured MSRP= $56,625 (including destination) + ttl (6.25%) + $1,300 (gg tax) = $61,464.06 $61,464.06 - $56,000 = $5,464.06 Savings ------------------------------------------------------ Invoice for M3---------------> $50,460.00 Invoice for Metallic Paint-----> $500.00 Invoice for Anti-theft alarm--> $365.00 Destination-----------------> $825.00 Invoice total = $52,150 (including Destination) + ttl (6.25%) + $1,300 (gg tax) = $56,709.37 (Total Drive-out price at invoice) $56,709.37 (total d.o. invoice) - $56,000 (d.o. price I paid) = $709.37 BELOW INVOICE!! Correct me if I've mistaken please. Thanks. |

invoice on US delivery still will net the dealer $2500-3k. doing a $250 over ED invoice on an ED car nets the dealer $250. No wonder they want to sell you a car at US invoice.

The only thing I see you trying to decide is if you wanna wait for the 2010 or not. I didn't since I didn't have the patience. And now the BIG day's almost here! |

yeah, i thought i would have the patience to wait until the end of november for the 2010...not happening! I figured i'd keep the car for atleast 5-7 years. The difference in 1 year('09vs'10) at that stage of the car's age is not that significant. Or not significant enoughfor me to suffer for the entire summer. But now I dont even have the patience to wait for the 2009 ED. Plus i wont be able to spend 14 full days in europe (work).

I think doing ED is worth paying a premium for - and not waiting. Admittedly, I'm biased from my own experience. I ordered in 1Q this year and paid inv + $2k: I'm not complaining as I also got the -7%. Helped pay for a wonderful trip & a memorable experience. Your negotiations come down to: geography, dealers more eager in some areas due to inventory; timing - you are close to the 'MY09 run-out; and the economic cycle. Sounds like you are on the right track

It may be the case that in July BMW is offering dealers $3,000 of "dealer cash" to move 2009 M3s under leasing (and make room for 2010s). If so, you should be able to go down to close to $3,000 under invoice. |

Not trying to be a buzzkill, but keep in mind the sales associates have to make a living. I think paying invoice is more than fair for all involved.

Btw, the sales associate should be prepared for battle as well as the client. There's no hard feelings in that. The sales associate's goal is to make the most money he can, and the client's goal is to save the most money he/she can. I've run into some sales guys who are flat out rude when I try to negotiate. I walk away from them because I know that they will not understand me and they will not be fair to me when I'm trying to get the best deal for myself. |

no this is an inventory car. The dealer i called in NJ, he had it in his sister dealership somewhere in bumblef**k, ohio...he can have it here in 4 days. He asked for 62K since he has to transport it. brought it down to 60ish. working on 59,5. I think i'll end up getting it anyway...its the perfect build for me...with the exception of 18"

You mentioning the 2010 MY makes me slightly nervous since I didn't wait for the new MY. I hope that there won't be any significant changes. Most members believe that there will not be much change for the 2010 M3 Sedan, and I would like to believe the same. |
