My maximum calculated/estimated gain (here) for combined mpg was 1.2 so 1.5 is a bit bigger than that but definitely in the same ball park. They sure are keeping us in the dark on all the tranny details.

Here's the scan - Bimmer May 08

The article is talking about the vert. However the same fuel mileage improvement from 6MT to DCT should apply to the sedan and coupe.

The info is in the second paragraph.

By the way there was no DCT info on page 6 as the article stated.

Yes they are keeping tight lipped about it. However, in a way it will make it more exciting when I get my car in 2-3 weeks from now.

Thanks for the scan! Is this a US magazine? With mpg it is either US or UK I guess. Sounds quite promising for no GGT based on the 1.5 mpg gain which should surely translate to the Coupe. However, the devil is in the details and the EPA vs. CAFE vs. GGT standards will determine if we escape the tax. Def. sounds promising. That will pay for 1/2 the M-DCT right off the bat! $1400 forM-DCT is a steal IMO.

Bimmer Magazine is based out of CA.

We only need a 2mpg increase to get to no GGT.

but seriously, if i see a market adjustment price, even as much as 1-2K, ill just turn around and walk out.

But before that ill thank my SA for ruining my first experiance buying a car, and that i was going to recommend a few friends to him, but he fucked up and ill never be coming back.

Agreed. But on a postive note ... given the average wait times reported at the docks, I would say we will definitely get shipped out this week.

This would be great. Still wonder why my M-DCT order has the ggt, which makes me think that it will still be $1300. Didn't someone post that the ggt is up to the manufacturer - they could pay the ggt themselves if they didn't want to charge for it. Under that logic, one could see BMW keeping the ggt on M-DCT cars.

Here's the official info:

http://www.epa.gov/fueleconomy/guzzler/420f06042.htm

Note this sentence. "The IRS collects the tax directly from the manufacturer or importer of the vehicles. The following table shows the gas guzzler tax rates which have been in effect since January 1, 1991. The manufacturer or importer must pay this amount for each vehicle that doesn’t meet the minimum fuel economy level of 22.5 mpg. "

By my reading, it all depends what is on the sticker. Of note, the M3 isn't on the 2008 list yet but a SMG M6 vert is 0.2 mpg better than a MT M6 vert. No differences for the SMG vs. MT M5 or M6 coupe.

Fifth - you'll be in a better position to comment since your car is coming soon. Don't let us down!
