That guy got what he deserved. Those kind of speeds should be kept on the track.

Apparently the guy posted on a 5 series forum.

so how can you be arrested by posting on a website. how can that be proof. all the dude has to say is that he was trying to be cool online and never really did it.

The posts were used as evidence to his wreckless behavior. The posts were apparently quite detailed, discussing time place and speed. It can be considered as a confession. Apparently someone on the forums called the cops on him afterwards and they started an investigation.

Reminds me of the time that Ferrari driver video taped himself speeding and he got busted after posting it to YouTube.

In my opinion, anything posted on a forum is complete heresay and could be posted and/or manipulated by anybody. If someone wanted to screw you over, they make up a story like that and call the police. I'm not saying this is what happened in this case, I just can't understand how courts convict people based on evidence found in e-mails, forum, chats. The internet is not real.

Didn't he mention how an old man was trying to write down his plate? Maybe that was it.

I still doubt that he was arrested and convicted based on a post on a forum.. I am sure there is much more to it. a post on the forum doesnt have much eveidence.

^^^ what he says... you could claim that someone else logged in as yourself, that you were just trying to show off, that you were drunk when you posted, that your wife forced you to do that...
anyone can make an accurate description of driving fast on any road...

Did anyone read the link to 5series.net? He(the m5 driver) said 2 people on the street witnessed him fly by..and 1 attempted to write down his plates...perhaps that was the evidence that sealed the deal. Regardless, that's one less idiot on the road..regardless of it being true or not...the driver was a douche.

Precisely why 18 year olds should NOT own M3s, M5s, M6s, 911s, etc.

Dumbass parents for allowing that... "I'm rich and my 18 year old needs an M5 so that he looks cool around his rich ass friends, I think I will buy him one for graduating high school... he's responsible and not like other teens driving a 500+hp car." Some parents don't have enough common sense to actually have kids. If you watch the news video from the M5 forum, they try to interview his mother and she says something to the effect that he isn't a wreckless driver or something. When parents are blind to the things their kids do, no wonder the kid turns out like a door knob.

Agreed. The article states an investigation was launched after the complaint was made. The police probably caught him speeding again.

That being said, it is not uncommon for such information to be used as evidence (I have some experience in IT-based litigation support). It's definitely not hearsay if the OP was the one making the statement (which is fairly easy to reconcile using IP and account information - all you need to do is look at the IP login information, which I'm sure Bimmerpost keeps, and go to your local ISP, and see which neighbourhood/account the IP was released to. This is ridiculously easy to do). It could definitely be used to show a history of reckless behaviour, and if the 'old man' was found, the posting could be used to corroborate the account of events.

The related news video says the police were able to obtain info on his car from the forum posts and then got eye witness reports from people on the street. Sounds like they simply gathered info from the M5 forum on his identity, used his "confession" and then the eye witness accounts confirming the events sealed the deal

what a total absolute idiot. this was not even just a lapse of better judgement which can happen, this was planned repeated stupidity, then when people reacted poorly to his bragging about it, he didn't understand why nobody was praising him!

I had friends today thinking this might have been me hiding the truth, because I got rid of my alpine white M5 (2007) not that long after he was charged and had no bmw (for first time in my life which people could not understand) until I got this m3 last week or so... and I am young, although I am not getting any younger! Some news articles had names and pictures, some didn't.

6 months suspension and 1 year probation....that's just a slap in the hand! The guy went way over 50, shouldn't his car get impounded and crushed according to the stunt driving law? Dude deserved it from the way he bragged about it online.

I heard that since there have been several challenges to the law, the courts are not pushing absolute maximum sentences (even for normal crimes the maximum penalties are usually saved for repeat offenders), particularly with crushing cars. And i believe crushing cars (not completely sure since its been a while since I read the law) its more geared towards heaviy modded cars designed to incrwase the speed of the vehicle.
