You would be correct IF you had not done what you were ticketed for. If you break the law and get a ticket, the responible thing to do is to admit fault, learn your lesson and move on.

Hmmm not really you do that and have your license revoked, that's no way to live. Rule of thumb is, if you have a big ticket get a lawyer. If you get a ticket and might be loosing your license over it, get a really good lawyer. There is a million ways of getting out of it even if they can prove you are guilty. "Technicalities" = Your best friend in a situation like this.

Am I the only person here who thinks this post and the responses to it are ridiculous? You were going over 100 miles an hour! that is illegal! You deserve what you got if not more! You even admitted you had previous points on your record. Take the penalty and grow up.

I've had (on average) almost one speeding ticket per year, every year since 1979.

The average is skewed by my 15 years on motorcyles in the UK. Three tickets on one weekend in 1981

I've grown up since then and my last two were actually 30 months apart.

None were ever over 100mph - highest was 89 in a 65

When I was a lot younger, 21 at the time, I was pulled over for speeding in my VW Rabbit, but the officer did not use radar. I went to court and was very intimidated by the whole experience.

I was the last person in court and when asked by the judge, “How do you plead?” I said “Guilty.” Right then, the judge said to me, “Do you think you’re guilty?” And I said “No.” Then the judge said something I’ll never forget.

He said, “Young man, never ever plead guilty in the court of law, even if you are guilty. If you plead guilty, there’s absolutely nothing I can do for you.”

He then went on to say, “If you plead innocent, then I have to hear your end of the story and make my judgment from there.”

I ended up pleading not guilty, but received the ticket anyway. Because it was my first and only ticket, the judge reduce it to almost nothing. As of now, I have nothing on my record and haven’t for over 10 years.

I think in a legal setting the responbile thing to do is to evaluate any defenses one might have and make tactical decisions accordingly. For all we know, there could have been evidentiary or procedural flaws with the citation such that the government could not meet its burden. One doesn't necessarily have to retain an attorney in a traffic citation situation, especially if it boils down to a credibility question between two people. And there is certainly nothing "irresponbile" about not waiving your constitutional right to have the government prove its case beyone a reasonable doubt.

Granted, there are sometimes incentives for early acceptance of responsibility, but not in every case, especially in traffic citations. Usually it's either pay the ticket/traffic school or see the judge. And if this individual had nothing to lose by going to court and seeing a judge, even if just in the hope for leniency, I don't see anything irresponsible about that.

that's insane... you either have the worse luck ever, or can't talk to cops...

I had 18 speeding tickets by the time I was 18. I'd been driving for 2 years.
Now THAT'S insane.

Wow... thats a little harsh punishment for 100+ speeding ticket.

I got pulled over for going 100+ in SD, CA. and paid $765 with 1 month suspension. Not to mention 2 points on my DMV record and termination of my insurance coverage.

6 months will go by fast... hang in there bud.

My suggestion would be to slow down We have posted speed limits for a reason and since you willingly exceeded the speed limit, you should accept the consequences The officer did you a favor and he prevented innocent people from getting hurt. Some people may not agree with me but your perspectives change when you have a family. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my BMW, but I try to be responsible when I'm driving
