M3 hood leakage

Does anyone know if how the vents on the M3's hood drain? It seems like liquid could come in through the unused vent.

This had been discussed in another thread and someone pointed out there are slits at the bottom of the vent to allow liquids to drain.

Here's the diagram of the intake system. There are drains in the bottom of the airbox.

Many thanks Greg. What about the other non-functional intake? I assume it drains properly away from anything that matters?

It's blanked off, shouldn't be any leakage.

Looks like water can still gather in the holes of the non-functional hood-mounted vent plate. Will have to dry that out after washing the car. I have visions of pulling away and all that water spraying up onto my freshly cleaned windshield.

From what i remember when i crawled around one a couple of weekends ago... there are some slits in the rubber boot that are normally closed, but with a little bit of water pressure, they open up and it drains "harmlessly" into the engine compartment and down to the ground.

WOW. great diagram. Thank you for sharing.
3 intakes? That's a lot. Number 3 is pretty low. Wouldn't this cause problems?

What happens with the intake on the low-right side of the car (fog lamp replacement?). It's also a fake?

I am working on it. Building the career and touring the US...gotta pay for the new M3 somehow! If all goes well, 3 years and we will be back in Seattle. Thanks for the info. Thanks for making me feel terrible about the weather...still snowing in Chicago.

Basically the same as the E46 M3. I think they have it figured out.

Well, now that you ask, more cool diagrams, inclduing the gearbox cooler fed by the right vent.

1 Gearbox oil cooler
2 Engine oil cooler
3 Engine coolant cooler
4 Steering oil cooler

Are the 8 pipes at the top of the head unit part of the air intake system? (I assume the exhaust pipes are hidden from view).

Yes, that's the inside of the air intake plenum with the intake stacks.
