Newer Shelby GT500

So in case 650hp wasn't enough in the old one, maybe 1200hp is

http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/s...led-2013-03-26

They are $130k and they're only making 100 of them.

Ridiculous!! Call me captain slow but i have said it once and will say it again i prefer a lightweight 2600-3000 pound car with 350-400 hp car than a 1000 hp 3500-4000 pound car. Where in your commute or track day will you be able to use 1200 hp! Ridiculous!

The drag strip is all about you can use the 1200 horses. I can agree with your 2600-3000lb statement, only with about 550 or so HP for me, lol.

Unmodified I am really not sure. I think the Shelby Cobra is around there. I was just throwing out a number that 400 isn't enough for me, lol.

I'll take one as well. Although I am more of a fan of the GT3 4.0RS.

People comparing a GT2 RS and GT3 RS 4.0 to a drag specialty Mustang.... both are literally double the price at the very least and built for completely different purposes.

But I agree on the lower power with lower weight sentiment. I've driven a 3400lb MKIV Supra with 875whp and, although it was a rocket on the highway, I preferred driving my friend's 450whp 2800lb 240SX.

Huh? They used the old 5.4 for this? Or is the author mistaken and they used the 5.8 out of the current standard Shelby (plus modifications of course)?

And you most definitely could make use of all 1200 of those horses at the strip. I can't imagine what sort of times this would put down, insane....

According to the article they bored out a 5.4L into a 5.8L. I don't know the size of the 650hp Shelby though.

I used a website that calculates, in theory it should go 8.6s in the 1/4, but I'm guessing more like 9s.

Yeah odd, the 662HP engine in the '13+ is a 5.8L, so I'm a bit surprised they didn't just use that as a base. But essentially if you're going to rework it as heavy as they did, it really doesn't matter which you've started with I guess.

I'd love to try to launch one of these with DRs on it.

It has enough traction issues with 650hp... cant imagine it with 1000
