No one has for real asked me...just playing around asking me because they know I will say no.
I have no problem with people who drive and are familiar with sports cars being behind the wheel with me in the passenger seat. But that is a limited number of people I know. Plus most people who know nothing about BMW's are to perplexed when they see the DCT shifter to even try. "Wait, what all does that do??"

Never.
Ironically the one friend I have who I would allow to wouldn't take me up on it because he understands the impact if something happened, his fault or not. That's how you differentiate between good friends and acquaintances!

I thought I would let a select few drive it......you know share the fun. But after a few scares I have my reservations. First let a friend (older than me but M fan, owner of a 92 M5 stage 2 or 3 Dinan) drive. The M-DCT was not his cup of tea as he kept looking for the clutch. Anyway it was a little scary for the first 5 minutes. Second I let my Dad drive (I manually shifted the M-DCT for him). He did great and took the car up to 110 mph until we returned and he drove off the concrete drive like it was his 4x4 pickup.
The wife drove it home from the delership but refuses to drive unless she has too. The tricky part is the people I trust are older and drive manuals (great drivers even instructors or race car drivers) but it may take them awhile to get used to the paddles. |

i've let my teenage cousin drive my car, friends, family. i've been in their shoes, so if i can make their lives a little happier, why not. i love my car, but friends/family comes first. just gotta have your priorities straight. life is not about the materials, it's about the experience

I allow my friend who has owned multiple M3's to drive my car. I am skeptical about allowing my g/f to drive my current coupe because of the drop, the CF front lip, and the BBS wheels (..she had driven my prior E90 M though). We shall see....

Are you serious? You live in LA. Winter there is practically summer in other places. And the cooler air makes the M3 pull harder. Enjoy it while you can.

Reading this post just makes me wonder what kind of "friend" and "husband" some people in this forum are...
Pointless to have such a nice car and not let a friend drive it and share the fun. I actually offer two of my friends when I first got the car and one of them was a little concerned that he could do some sort of damage to the car. After I insisted he drove it in D mode and had a lot of fun. The other one just pushed the M button and smiled during the entire ride. And my wife, of course she can and does drive the car. The day my car becomes more valuable or important than my wife, please send me to a mental institution as I definitely need to be medicated and locked up!

So you are saying that you car is just as relevant and important to you as you girlfriend/wife?!
Does she know this?
