Thanks for posting, Surfclown. Looks like it will be 2011 MY indeed. I guess the e90s (M3 and 3 series both) will be 2011s also - seems likely at this point.

That's virtually guaranteed not to happen for the LCI. The F3x yes, but not for the LCI e9x.

According to my research, the N54 engine will be replaced for MY 2011. Let's see what happens.

Yea, the MY 2011 is confirmed I got that.

I was talking about the turbo in-line 6 that his dealer "implied." I think that's bogus...

I'm a little skeptical about this rumored IL 6 twin turbo for M3. Why would they want to change it after barely 3 yrs into the model. Unless that is BMW response to C63 Performance package (which I doubt). By now, most car magazines would do at least some kind of review on the upcoming new engine.

If there is an engine change, this would be the most logical one.

I personally think if this were to happen, the info about it would be leaked already.

I highly doubted it is called a 2011. it should be a 2010.5 but this this concept is too confusing to the public so as of now everything is labeled as "2011" for simplicity.

this year naming convention is getting more retarded by the day. In a few more years a car that gets produce in 2020 will be called a 2025.

Today he called me and left a message which and said: "Jamie, Jack here! I just spoke with distribution and I have some news and it is both good and bad. Give me a call when you get a chance." When I spoke to him he told me that I could not have a January build because there were no spots left, and I couldn't have a February build because there are no M3's being built in February. He basically told me that I am going to be getting a car built in March and it will be a MY2011. He said he was told that the Coupe and Convertible were getting some minor styling changes from March production. There will be no changes to the Sedan as far as styling goes however there may be some minor changes to available options and equipment. When I questioned Jack regarding the Comp Package he did not have any info on it for Coupe, Convertible, or Sedan however he would give me a call as soon as the MY2011 ordering guide came.

Hope this helps!
Well I got a call from Jack-the dealer GM-today and he told me that I was approved for a January build after all. He got an email from distribution today and they said he was approved for a January build on his pre-sold M3 sedan (My Car).

This doesn't change any info in my previous post (which I quoted above) with regards to MY2011 being from 03/10 build but my particular car now will be a MY2010. I expect an incentive be it either a larger discount or good rate for taking the 2010 car over the 2011. Since there are no styling changes scheduled for the sedan I don't mind taking the 2010..... However, if I were getting a coupe I would wait for a March build.

Here's something to ponder. This is the how the NHTSA defines CAFE:

Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) is the sales weighted average fuel economy, expressed in miles per gallon (mpg), of a manufacturer's fleet of passenger cars or light trucks with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 8,500 lbs. or less, manufactured for sale in the United States, for any given model year. Fuel economy is defined as the average mileage traveled by an automobile per gallon of gasoline (or equivalent amount of other fuel) consumed as measured in accordance with the testing and evaluation protocol set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

So, knowing that the last model year of the E60 M5 (surely BMW's biggest CAFE offender since trucks have much less strict regulations) is 2010, perhaps BMW's motivation was gaining CAFE points (i.e saving money). Recall that BMW routinely pays CAFE fines (quite by design - it is built into the business case) since their fleet never meets CAFE regulations. By pushing the M3 into 2011 MY as soon as possible, they may get a win since the M5 will not exist for MY2011 (though the M6 will). The point being that if BMW needed motivation to call the M3 a 2011 (rather than leaving it a 2010, similar to how the E46 story went) then this could have provided at least some.

BMW pays the fine, but the consumer pays it in the end. Either way, staying within the constraints saves us all in the end.

The chances are pretty good that some 2010's will still linger on lots into the summer months. However, don't expect to have a huge selection as far as options and color combinations. Many of the desirable combos may be gone by then. I suppose it all depends on whether and to what extent BMW starts to offer incentives on the left overs.

Are dealers taking 2011 orders yet?

Would like to order the 2011 (or whatever the LCI is called) M3 convertible for March production. Has anyone placed an order yet?

Thanks.

Pricing is not released yet and therefore no one is taking orders.
