Brake Sensor after Stop Tech BBK upgrade

Hi All,

Can seem to find the answer to this. If I upgrade front and back on my M3 E92 do I lose my OEM brake sensor or warning lights. Do they stay on or do they continue to work?

Thanks

The brake sensors will become non-functional after installing StopTech.

As long as you keep the sensors and zip tie them to a suspension arm, etc., the warning lights will not come up. They might light up eventually because the computer 'thinks' you've driven far enough. But you can easily reset them yourself.

Be very careful to remove the little clip/spring that holds the sensor to the pad. You can't buy them individually - only with a whole new brake sensor (~$50 each).

After installing my APracing BBK I did this;

1. Keep the metal clips in the brake sensor probe.
2. Use electrical tape to tape it up tight and used zip-tie's (small) to secure the electrical tape around the sensor probe.
3. Used medium sized zip-tie's and tied the sensor probe to the brake line brackets and tucked under the wheel well covering for the front brakes, and tied them to the suspension strut on the rear wheels.

1 year, 7,000 miles and NO brake sensor lights. The electrical tape is obviously not adehsive and somewhat water tight if you rap it up correctly and should keep the sensor's from getting full of crap or/and loosing the metal clips. Just make sure their secured and tied up somewhere they wont' come loose on you. I did not go with the option of removing the probes as described in another link here on this forum because if ever it does trip, all I need to do is hopefully just replace those probe wires and clips at a minimul cost and DIY. Good luck.

Brake sensor is around 16 dollars.

Some brake pads retain a recess for the OEM brake sensors to still be used with the Stoptech calipers, for example Cool Carbon pads which I have paired with my ST-40 calipers.

Thanks everyone. So I'm about to pull the trigger on ST40 for the front and ST40R for the rear. do you recommend taking the rims off and using the template to measure or do you think I am good. I have a late DEC 2008 which is essentially the 2009 E92 M3 Coupe. 18 on front and 19 on back. From what I can gather these will fit just fine. Thoughts?

I know the ST-40 works with the OE and ZCP 19” wheels. You have 18 F and 19 R on your car? If so, I’m not sure about the fitment, but I think it will work. I have the ST-60/380mm front, and it clears both the OE 19” ZCP wheel, and the 18” Apex wheel.

I strongly encourage you to take the rims off and use the template. The car did not come from the factory with 18F/19R wheels (simply not an option) and there are no factory wheels in the two sizes that look the same - none of the factory 18's look like any of the factory 19's - so if you really have that combo, then the car has aftermarket rims on it.

If they're aftermarket, you'd better check them to make sure the brakes will fit.
