Can't somebody who has done it shoot a freaking video of this?
Words just don't help on this, as you found out; you need to see how it's done. Good luck. And if somebody helps you, hopefully you can shoot the video yourself and post it on the DIY section. Take care. |

There is a video already, it's not all that helpful. I can't get mine out either. I ended up with a small 1mm spot where the paint didn't take too well to all the attempts.

Mine came out fairly easy. Just use more force! Don't be afraid to break the tabs off the stock unit...you're replacing them anyway, right? Just remember that the black, plastic portion comes off with the side marker.

Squeeze as hard as you can. Then start wiggling harder and harder until you can eventually pull the bottom toward the sky and it will just "pop" right out. Maybe you gotta hit the weights!!....
 Remember to not pull the unit too far away from the car before disconnecting the electric cord.

i just did this yesterday... the part i find really hard was seperating the side grills from the black plastic plug ( this is after you have removed the whole thing from the fenders)... i needed to use a lot of force there and i actually bent the plastic tabs while seperating the chrome side grill from the black plastic plug.

These were a pain in the ass to get out.
I taped the area up, and used the screw driver to pull out one end, and then kept pulling till it came out.

Just wrap up a small flat head and start at the corner closest to the door and work your way along the bottom in like 2-3 inch increaments lifting/squeezing with your non-screwdriver hand till the bottom pops out... Done.

I've had had no success with the "squeeze" method in the DIY, either -- and I'm no weakling. I temporarily gave up on this install for fear of breaking something or scratching the surrounding paint by using too much force, but will return to it once I get my courage up again.

Just did mine. It did take some force. I used the squeeze and pull up method. It felt like I was gonna rip the fender off, but came right out without anything breaking.
As another poster said, the tough part is actually separating the gill from the black plastic thing. |

BIG SHOUT OUT TO ADAM @ VIVID. His crew got my gills out yesterday using a tiny ass screwdriver to unclip these things. After a month or two of waiting I am finally de-chromed.
