Wheel lock key common to break?
Hello everyone. In the past month I had 3 punctures in my tires and twice having to leave the car at the tire shop because the lock key broke and no chance of pulling the wheel out and only place to get another lock key is from the dealer. Anyone having this problem? What metal is the key made from? Now I\'m in to get my 3rd lock key this month and a 4th as spare. BMW should have made a tougher one!

I’ve had a number of cars with lug locks, and I have found the perfect solution: 1) buy 4 standard lug bolts, and, 2) throw the locks in the closest trash can. Any pro wanting your wheels will not be deterred by the locks. I remove wheels so often, the locks are just not tolerable.

I use them and haven't had any issues, and no breaks, or theft either.
I keep the key in a safe place, and the dealer always has a master key. But I agree, the metal used is kind of soft and they should make it from a more durable metal.

Never heard of them breaking before... They are pretty strong.
If someone wants your wheels, locks or not, they're going to be gone. To a professional, a wheel lock is nothing more than a nuisance.

Car is still stuck at the tire shop. I apparently took the last wheel lock size 32. I need to wait a few days to get another. I will just get 4 normal lugs like you guys said.

They can break if using an air wrench to get the bolt off...too large a torque hit all at once. Always use a hand wrench to remove the locking bolts.

Gotta be extra careful using a wheel lock or you will strip it as mentioned.if they want your wheels, they will take them.wheel lock or not they will take them !
Down the st is a BMW dealer and every other week they have an M6,M5 or an M3 sitting on blocks ,so the wheel lock ain't stopping them from taking what they want ! |

Use RAD locks, they are forged. However, they only come in silver. Paint them with high temp black. It's what I did and they are holding up fine.
