I think we'll see the Quattro as R4. Remember the R4 e-Tron? It looks very similar.

Audi Nuvolari ---> Audi A5
Audi Le Mans ---> Audi R8
Audi Quattro ---> Audi R4

The 2011 TT weighs in at 3200 pounds+-

The cars will most likely be similar in size though the quattro will be taller and longer. But size doesnt matter though, most of the times cars like wagons weigh less than their sedan family members.

Anything is possible.

I really doubt that Audi would price this thing over 100k, who the fuck would buy it?
the Quattro doesn't seem to be shaping up into a "mainstream" car, so the same rules don't necessarily apply in this case... so far the rumors still point to a very limited production run

there are "sports" cars in the 100k+ price range couldn't outrun, for example, a C6 Z06

No, I think the Quattro will come as R4. Just as the Audi Le Mans (with 620 HP) became an R8 V10 (with 525 HP), and its entry model got a the RS4 V8 (with 420 HP), so I think the Audi Quattro will come as R4 with a I5 (with about 400 HP) from TT-RS, and the entry model will get the I4 (with about 300 PS), from the TT-S. So the R4 will be the fastest Audi under R8, but priced slightly under or like RS5, which will be "slower".

Together, these reductions add up to a much tighter package and more muscular proportions. To bring the weight down to 2900 pounds (roughly the same level as the 1984 Sport Quattro), Audi replaced the steel body of the production RS5 with a custom aluminum spaceframe architecture clad with carbon fiber panels. A further cut in calories was achieved by substituting the V-8 and the dual-clutch transmission with a turbocharged five-cylinder and a manual six-speed gearbox.
That's pretty much what I've read. Audi is currently working out one of two options:
1. low volume super-exotic construction as described above, well over $100k price tag, or
2. high volume lightened and decontended version of the RS5

Option 1 can definitely achieve the sub-3000 lbs weight target - it would be a very limited production item, faster than a standard R8 and more expensive.

Option 2 has no chance in hell of making the weight target - would be lucky if it came in around 3400lbs.

I think the R4 will be something totally different from either of these options - built on a new smaller mid-engine Audi/Porsche (and possibly VW) chassis. Think VW Blue Sport concept from a couple of years ago (did I get the name right). Mostly 4 cylinder engines (turbo and N/A), for the next small and (relatively) inexpensive roadsters and coupes.

The reason I doubt this is the same thing as the R4 is, IMO, engine placement - the R4 will be mid-engined, and a true Quattro descendant would need to be front-engined.

Either way, these will come in at well over what I'm willing to pay for a car - which is around $50-55k out the door. Too bad...
