I have been using version 1.7.5.0 for awhile now without any problems, but yesterday I had to re-install Windows 7 and had to download the latest software version (1.7.7.1) from the BT website.

Unfortunately, the new version is giving me problems. The actual values will display for a period of time and then seem to lockup (blank/no reading). If I go out of actual values and go back in it will work again for awhile (20 seconds to maybe a couple of minutes) and lockup again.

Anyone else having this problem?

I tried the to use the latest / most recent BT cable software under Windows 7 ( 64 bit ) using the following hardware:

- ASUS netbook 1001p Intel Atom 1.6 GHZ
- HP 2710p Intel 2 Core CPU 1.33 GHZ
- HP Pavilion Intel 2 Core CPU 2.2 GHZ
- Apple MacBook Pro 13" 2010 ( Windows 7 native mode = BOOTCAMP ) Intel 2 Core CPU 2.66 GHZ

The result is always the same. The SW seems to try to get as much samples as possible and even at the most slow settings it samples high and stumbles on this approach. I'd like to see this software with a defined sample rate per second like 12 or so highest readings per second on high-performance laptops from the CAN-bus.

E.g. my Innovate Motorsports OT-2 device reads rock-solid 12 samples per second from the e9x M3 OBD II CAN-bus, for hours if I like to. This should be possible for BT as well.

Cheers,
Eugen

***UPDATE***

I tested version 1.7.8.0 last week which was suppose to correct the problem, but it did not.

However.... version 1.7.8.1 was released yesterday.

I used it for about 10-15 minutes this morning and the Actual Values never locked up!

Just dowloaded the latest version. I will test it on a MacBook Pro 13" 2010 2.66 GHZ laptop running Windows 7 in 64-bit native mode ( bootcamp ), so no compatibility issues. Looking forward to get no lockups with this BT version. Will report back.

Confirmed. It works now. The error / warning message still exists once you start sampling. My MacBook ( using BootCamp and Windows 7 64-Bit ) reads more than 25 samples per second and I use the most slow settings possible. Tested 30+ minutes.

Ya know... I think me and you might be the only people on the forum that uses this software!

I used this software on my former 335i and it worked like a charm ( MSD80 ECU ). The sample rates have been around 10 to 15 readings / second. The M3 ECU must be quite fast.

The BT tool is great for error code checking and clearing and able to handle shadow codes, etc. If you have no BMW proprietary hardware solution, this SW might meet average expectations.

Now it seems to start to make sense to use the BT tool for datalogging purposes on the M3 as well, IMO. However, I'd like to see how the SW behaves on a Netbook ( Intel Atom * ) using Windows 7 64-Bit. Can't test, sold my Netbook .

I'll post to this thread when I use it on my M3, I'm going to be buying it as an additional diagnostic tool since my 335 will be out of warranty soon and I refuse to believe that $3k or more for extended maintenance is cheaper than DIY when the fuel pump issue is already warranted to 100k regardless.

I used the software back in May to log problems with my DCT. Haven't had a reason to use it since. It would be nice to get a users group going so the knowledge base could expand a bit.

Thinking about picking up a diagnostic tool for my M as well. Is this one of the better ones out there? How is the interface. Is it user friendly and intuitive?

I'm curious about this as well. My M3 is out of warranty and I just want to make sure I have the diagnostic tools I need for it. Would the Bav Tool be what I need to reset lights, read codes, etc for the M3? I had one for my 335i but all I did with it was clear codes before warranty work.

I was under the impression from talking to Bav Auto over the phone that... the tool does not work on 2011 M3. Only 2008 and 2009.

I enjoy it if you are at all someone who likes to do own maintence as you can resest intervals. Other cables can read codes.

Also if you are a bit of a nerd and like to log data such as afr, timing, fuel pressure or whatever else to see how your car is operating than this is the one to have!

Ambient Temp, Engine Speed, Engine Temp, Induced Air Temp, Fuel Nominal Pressure, and Lambda actual value before catalytic converter bank 1 & 2.

However, most of data provided by the above values is displayed incorrectly on my 2009 E92 M3.
For example:
My ambient temperature is showing 2608 degrees Celsius and the engine temperature is 3336 degrees Celsius.
The O2 sensor values are in the 15000 16000 range
Im working with Owen at Durametric Software to get this corrected. I have already tried two new ECU files that were suppose to correct the situation, but no luck yet. Hopefully with a little patience this will get resolved and be included on the next software release.

For those are not having any problems (2008 M3s):
What are some of the available values that you like to use when monitoring the car? Has anyone found which available value will display total ignition timing?
These numbers are correct the engine utilizes nuclear fusion... First of its kind in the v8.

I apologize for dredging up such an old thread, but it seems like the most fitting place to post.

Has anybody found a description list of the Actual Values?

At the moment, I'm looking for timing per cylinder. The software appears to provide timing for cylinder 1 and 6 only. The knock system has parameters for all cylinders, either bank, or totaled for everything. Unfortunately, the conversion for knock system values is incorrect.
