Noooo, I thought I was the only one lol. I have not seen anyone else with one. At least you're in Dallas. When people ask where you got it, don't tell them, or better yet, lie.

Have you already received it? If not, it has a white trim around it that really bothers me so I ordered a black frame for it.

Yeah, it's the solid black one with the white Texas star on the left side. Yeah, you are in Houston so cool...we won't cross paths and look like twinks. lol

You said there is a white small border...ah man that sucks. Yep will need a thin plate frame trim then.

I haven't considered that because it would be illegal. Any modification or obstruction of the plate is considered "illegal". I wouldn't want to test a police officer...who is just looking for something to get you for.

Then again, maybe I would depending on how small the trim is. lol

It's about a half inch thick but real noticable on a black car. I'll post a pic later.

^ Nevermind, just got home and after searching for my camera for a while I realized I threw it away at my friend's wedding a while back because it wasn't working at the time. I kind of regret that decision now.

Anyway, after measuring it, I can tell you it is just over half an inch wide, 10/16" to be exact.

hmmm, maybe i will black out that little border after all. We are in 2010 and we can't produce edgeless borders on plates? Damn. The state is always so far behind in tech, yet, this company is actually 3rd party. Oh well.

I was just looking at those online last night. Black with white lettering for like 30 extra bucks if you take random numbers right?

Yes, black with white lettering. The solid looks sharp although the price is not correct.

Once you look around the plates are expensive considering... the 30 price tag is if you paid for the tag for 10 years. I don't like anything that long.

So what does it cost per year? Cause I hate the plates I just got. I dont need a mural across my plate.

If you want a plate with random numbers, you have two choices:

You can order one of the options from the txdmv site (http://www.txdmv.gov/vehicles/license_plates.htm), such as a collegiate plate, and it's $30 when you order and then an additional $30/year that's added to your registration. I've had several sets of Texas A&M plates over the last few years, all with random letters.

If you want one of the new backgrounds, you are talking about ordering from myplates.com, which you can access from the txdmv site. There is an option to order plates using one of the new backgrounds with random letters (choose "create a plate" and then "design series/background only"). I just checked the pricing and saw $55/year. They also have 5- and 10-year options.

Yes, I chose the $55/year option. I selected design series/background only. I then chose random letters.

Side note: You can actually order and go back (adding random plate numbers to your cart). This can help you select the last two letters if you went through the alphabet. Depends on how patient and anal you are and what letter they are at. Again, it's not worth wasting 10 minutes with, but you can play with the last two letters by adding multiples into the "shopping" cart...then removing all but the one plate you choose. Yes it is silly, but then again if your name was Bob Smith and they were at Plate ****BQ, BR, BS, etc....you could select your last two initials.

55 a year for the solid black with star, random letters, is not a bad choice.
Spending $195 per year for a custom phrase is not my idea. I'd rather spend that on tangible mods.

Finally, my idea was to get the solid black background...can't wait to replace the horrid new designed plates with this black plate.

That's cool! I wasn't too crazy about my last two letters of "WS" when I ordered my current set a few months ago but I've gotten used to it. Would have been nice to have a couple more options...

So is it $55 a year on top of the other fees or $55 total?

I can't stand the new tags... I have one on my truck and it pisses me off.

It's fun having a plate that is meaningful to you IMO. I went this route. Relative to the grand total we spend on our cars each year, $195 is not too bad.
