Switching out the steel roof for a carbon roof?

The Interlagos Blue M3 that I am picking up has a moonroof installed instead of the standard carbon fiber. I'm torn whether I should delete the moon roof and replace the steel roof with the OEM carbon roof. I know the right people to do the swap, so technical issue is not of a concern.

I have seen both the moonroof and the carbon roof on an Interlagos Blue M3. I think both look great so I don't know what I should do. Any opinions? Thanks~

Given the few thousand that is likely to cost and the risks of semi-major surgery, I think you'd be better off finding exactly the one you want with CF roof already in place.

This has been brought up many times before. The CF roof will never really give you any advantage. Even if you track your car you will never be able to push the car far enough into its limits to know the difference.

I say if you like the look of the CF and the moonroof, keep the moonroof because it actually has functionality. Even if you only open it once in the lifetime of your ownership, it was worth getting the option.

I have it and have never looked back.

It's just an overlay so it adds weight to the car.

a carbon fiber sheet that you stick to the roof is not a critical component
cuting out your roof to replace it with the real CF roof is more of a critical operation

no it's just a carbon fibre sheet you stick on, i doubt it weighs very much
but i mean if this is the look he wants
i'd rather do that than to tear out my roof and stick on the OEM CF roof
i am sure that would screw my resale value
this one if the buyer doesn't like it can be removed and wipe the remains of the adhesive with some goo gone

i say if you got a car with the moonroof just keep the moonroof on... instead of replacing it with CF, or using any sort of overlay, you can have the whole roof painted black to give it a more aggressive look. there's nothing wrong with having a moonroof, i have a cf roof car but to be honest, if i got a car with a moonroof, it wouldnt have bothered me that much.

It doesn't bother me much either. I have found a guy that can make me a 1x1 weave roof cover if I needed it down the road.

Being you have a dark color, I would stick with the moonroof. I think the cosmetic advantage of the cf roof only really applies to the lighter colors like AW, Space Gray, SSII, and Melbourne. IB, JzB, JB, and Sparkling Graphite don't offer much if any of a contrast with the cf roof. If I had my color (SG) and a moonroof, I would order the OEM roof and have a body shop make the switch. I've seen OEM CSL roofs installed on non-CSL E46 M3s and the jobs were flawless, so it can be done with little risk if taken to the right place.

this is simple...as has been said. If you want a moonroof, buy this car...if you want CF, find another one. Simple as that... It's not like they're impossible to find.
