+1 I like many BMW bikes but the looks of this is barely distinguishable from any of the Japanese big 4 makes. In fact, this one is even busier than most. I prefer the look of the boxer twin, a BMW staple.

this point of this bike(besides its looks) is that it's engineered like a bmw. 193hp & 404lbs. that will be the lightest street bike on the market

there's lighter bikes out there

but that is light for a liter bike, and it's superbike horsepower on top of the light weight

for compairson the r1 is 419 and 180 hp, but that's wet weight, the 404 pounds is a dry weight

This should eventually translate well for them on the track and I applaud them for that. But it still has a generic Big 4 look to it which was apparantly BMW's intent in order to appeal to the masses.

From autoblog:

"We intend to take the four Japanese head-on. We did not intend to build a motorcycle like Ducati does or KTM does. We wanted to build a mainstream motorcycle," says Pieter de Waal, Vice President of BMW Motorrad USA.

For the street, I prefer riding something that has unique looks and sound. Oh, and it's gotta be a twin!

WSBK wins and top placements should be good for the company so I am happy to see this happening. But I hope BMW keeps on building models like the HP2 Sport!

Meh....

I always liked the K1200R simply because it was original and could still do relatively decent while riding with my friends. My CBR900RR was faster, but the K was my all time favorite.

Not really a fan of cookie cutter sports bikes, but there's really only so much originality you can put into a bike that is aimed at that segment.

in regards to this bike appealing to "the masses", i have to say it's about time!

the "sport" bikes they've been making might be a nice ride but i wouldn't want to find out.. they're hideous to look at it & don't excel in performance in any regard. i'm extatic that bmw is finally stepping up their game & why not play w/ the big 4, they're doing it right!!!

Maybe it's time for me to ride again...I gave it up a couple of years ago after riding Kawi's for several years.
