Audi RS 5 US Pricing Announced
The Audi RS 5 will start at $68,900 base price. While the car is gorgeous does anyone else feel that is a little steep compared to the competition? I mean, the M3 as far as I can remember started at $58,000 base. A little steep compared to its main rivals. I wonder if the car comes fully loaded for the US? What do you folks think?
I posted this in e general automotive section but not many of you venture into that forum. |

I don't think the price is actually too bad, considering what M3's cost at the moment. I wouldn't buy the RS5 though as it's a bit heavy and cumbersome (so I've read) but I wouldn't mind test driving one and seeing what it's like

I think the price is about right, especially if you load up an M3 like mine. I priced an RS5 on Audi's site and it ended up being within $3K of my 2011 M3's sticker price. If you want a stripped-down model, then the M is cheaper because the RS5 can't get as stripped. Plus, the one I configured had an option not available on the M...Adaptive Cruise Control.

Nope, its priced right for the segment.

The RS5 is more of a GT car I think... I waited on their release to see if they were going to have a 6sp option and ordered the M3 a couple of days after finding out the US gets DSG only. I'm no fan of Audis 4.2L either but having owned 6 Audis over the past 15yrs I wanted to make sure I at least considered one. Also I'll tell you its a much bigger car in feel having come from an '11 S4 myself. Audi has taken the B8/B9 platform up 1/2 a notch like BMW has on the F3X so if you like the smaller car size you may be disappointed as I was with mine.

starting at!!!?! a reasonably optioned M3 checks out at $67k...
That means with all the bells and whistles, the car might be pushing $80k. What are the standard features? DSG? |

so they give the s5 the 4.2L. Then take it away and give it a SC v6, then they release the rs5 with the same 4.2L as the s5 for about $15,000 more and don't offer it in a manual.
audi should have just kept the 4.2L in the s5 and made the RS5 really something special (and not 3,900 lbs), I feel like the the RS and M brands are just not want they used to be anymore. Im worried about the direction of this class of cars. edit: and it still cannot beat their one main rival in that car class, the m3..

This could be my next car down the road a few years, mainly for the Quattro but also the performance isn't that far off the M3. RS5 is an awesome GT car. |

i just built my own rs5 and then compared it a e92 m3 i built and they are actually the same price with the same options checked off. the rs5 starting price is high but you get alot of things standard on the audi whereas in the bmw you have to add them on...generally how the two companies work across their range of cars. the rs5 can get very expensive if you add EVERYTHING but i didnt add on the cc brakes or the little things so in the end i would have to say it comes down to the individual...do you want a rs5 or a m3? imo i think audi screwed themselves over for not bringing this car to the states earlier but recently i found out that audi dgaf about their sales or anything really. they live in their own world

This is a good, all season GT car that will give both comfort and better performance than most cars out on the road, but it's not something I can see that would compete with the M3 or C63 AMG. Most of the owners will probably never see the track in this car, but will be more than enough for them in the normal world because as some may know, most of the forum members here live in Top Gear land.

I guess they're trying to compete with the E93

At least Audi does give you the option of adding ceramic brakes. I don't understand why BMW can't offer a brake upgrade. At very least they should have put better calipers in the M

My M3 stickered for $76K. The RS5 does as well as I would order it. It is a shame that they waited so long to come out with this car in America. The target is the F8x M3 not the E9X.
