Fast $813 spent today

Just FYI on a couple of things that have been posted.

first AC problems. Over a 4 week period or so my AC started to lose ability to cool in El Paso. Supsecting a leak and hoping it was not the evap where the dash may be torn apart, took to dealer. yep capacity is about 1.30 LBS freon, It has about .25 so they added more and a dye. (2w weeks ago)

today the leak was found, both schrader (???) valves leaking, parts total for that $7.90, part # 64 53 6 922 944 but recover and refill freon $$$$$$. Rubber part deteriorates.

ok so along with this problem all of sudden check engine lite, increased emissions, car drives fine. Its 2009 with 63K miles, driven every day. So over 2-3 days I noticed a little longer cranking to all of sudden battery discharged, all lites on, battery is dead. car get flat bedded to do AC work (see above). Sure enough check engine lite on for low battery voltage, replaced battery $326, code and install, more $$$$$$. Check engine lite off.

Bottom line battery in a daily driven car, you MIGHT get 48m, plan on 36-42 m and budget accordingly.

Good news its paid for in May, looks like timing is great to have extra $$$ available for repairs.

Get a battery tender plus and you will be okay for a long time:

You dont need a batterytender if you are driving the car everyday. Plugging in daily would be overkill.

I KNEW the schraeder valves are a problem on these cars. Mine has slowly been losing cooling capacity. I recharged it this summer and so far so good (for now).

My battery died after 4 years and it was a DD. What I learned is that, if you have Comfort Access and you don't lock your car then it still draws power. I never lock used to lock the doors when its in the garage.

I too have a low battery, can I purchase and install myself (I'm very handy) or does it need coding? Currenty only low batt. warning after I shut the car off once. Also rear defrost is going in and out (most likely low battery issue).

Who have the cheapest batts?

You guys have been lucky thus far then. Hate to say it, but it's only a matter of time, and it usually happens kind of quick.

No worries though. I'd recommend going with a Die Hard battery from Sears. Same spec as BMW, 1/3 price from what I was quoted.
