How do you like the 3D's? I used to have the Wintersport M3's on my e46 M3 and they were amazing. How do these perform on ice and lots of snow?

they are actually pretty good. nice grip on snow and ice but then again I don't drive like an idiot and try to use my winter beater during the storm days.

Here is my winter set-up......

It is not practical to drive a BMW that is not an X-Drive here in Northern AB. The snow clearing is inadequate on most residential streets and are sometimes impassable to all but 4WD vehicles.

Picked up my winter set up today from Allan @ Simply Tire. Hankook W300, 235/40/18 front and 245/40/18 rear, mounted on M6 replicas w proper offset. They were ordered 3 weeks ago, trying to beat the crazy rush, whom some of you experienced last yr. Allan was great very knowledgeable and helpful. I think the Hankook tires may not perform on dry as well as say the Dunlop 3D or the Michelin or Pirelli, but Hankook W300 is much more aggressive in the snow and ice which is what we really need in the great white north

you know I picked up the exact same set up except i have m5 reps...I don't think I want to drive the M in snow after this..not saying they are bad...these tires delay the steering response like crazyyy ...hopefully I'll feel better when snow actually hits...

Do you mean that you drove with the Hankook set up last winter and found them lousy in steering response or do you mean you have them on right now?

15 will be quite aggressive in the front

but 38 in the rear? Are you sure? That means the wheels will be pushed in almost 3 cm from where the stock wheel sits? +15 all around would have been better

but someone please correct me if I'm wrong

i mean right now...the response is so lousy...I've driven on 19" pirelli winters before and it was much better...but I guess once snow hit's ill appreciate them more

i have the same set up 18x8.5 but et 15 front and et 38 rear..they actually sit pretty welll...and i hit a huge pothole today..couldnt see it...the wheels are pretty strong.

Did you get them from Simply Tires as well? When I was picking up my set up, Allan showed me what some of the other M3 owners have ordered, which were M5 replica w Hankook W300. He said it seems to be the more popular pick this season.

Yup, I've been a customer of Allen for a while ..they do great work...I picked up the M5 over the M6 because I was never a fan of huge space between spokes..the m6 simply doesnt do it for me..and because they are winter wheels I could worry less if I didn't always clean them... it's really what you want ...

if you find the hankooks too unresponsive, id really suggest the dunlop wintersport 3Ds...very good winter tire for those looking at dry road performance. As good as the Pirelli's on dry road and less expensive

Ford eh? huh, thats too bad....... At least its parked beside the trash compactor!

Not sure if it will be as good as the M in the snow, but it should do the trick!

These should be going on with PA3's soon.. Note they are black not gray, and still have to put on the little M and BMW emblems.

For color comparison, I think the center cap is painted the gray that the normal replicas are colored.

Those are going to look nice - be sure to post some pics back here when you put them on. I like the M6 look - wished I would have went with those but my options were limited last year.
