Lime Rock Park Noise Restriction

Has anyone ran at Lime Rock with a catless X pipe? I'm worried that my exhaust will be too loud for the track.

get an decibel reader from radioshack. They're super strict at Limerock. What group are you running with?

They are very strict. I believe it's limited to 88db. The last event I was at there was a guy running an akra evo full setup and he was ok, but that is catted. Does your x pipe have resonators?

Are you going for the BMW events this weekend? If so, I'll be there both days with my M3.

My x pipe has 2 resonators.'y exhaust is valved gintani race but it's still pretty loud with the valves closed. I'm going to have to test it. I'd hate to go up there and be kicked out after 1/2 a run.

I signed up for Friday with the BMW CCA Connecticut Valley Chapter

As rcracin said, test it before even going there.

If you dont want to change your exhaust and it's too loud, look into getting some turn downs and stuff them with steel wool or brillo pad. That's what my buddy had to do when he was over the decibel limit and we were already there. Kiss your sexy exhaust tips goodbye though.

88db? That's nuts...I thought Laguna Seca sucked with its 90db limit days. Why the hell is that db limit in place at Line Rock Park? Are houses close by or something?

Yea, there are houses very close by. There is big money out there and the people are aholes about the noise. There is even an old ordinance on the books that prohibits any racing/driving on Sundays. It's nuts. If you go to the Glen the town is great and they really embrace the track. Not at Lime Rock. It's like it's a nuisance or something. :

Weekend New York money/influence is the problem. The locals like the track, it generates money and jobs in an otherwise "empty" area. I think it used to be a quarry, maybe they should go back to blasting and heavy trucks?

I bought a decibel meter and stood about 45' away directly behind the car while I had someone bring it to 7,500 rpm. I got anywhere from 88 - 92db. This is with the car parked and valves closed. I'm not sure how the exhaust note would change under load. What do people think?

There's a Blipshift competition for a Lime Rock specific t-shirt.

I was thinking about "Lime Rock Park: Pissing Off the Neighbors Since 1957"

or

"One Left Turn Deserves Another!"

Thoughts? Any chance of winning?

The sound meter is on pit wall at the finish line (i.e. where your are WOT) 45' is too far away.

LRP allows a few unrestricted events per year, look them up as "unmuffled events". They're usually run 1pm-6pm.

It all worked out. I'm not even sure at this point it was worth all the worrying. Better safe than sorry I guess. I ended up getting a stock rear section. On the decibel meter it still read 92db just like my other exhaust. Up there it seemed much more quiet. Maybe the wide open space helps the sound disperse better. I made a mistake by leaving my db meter at home. I should've tested it at the track to see what other cars where doing.

I'd still like to do something to quiet my exhaust a bit for the future just in case

I was driving the orange M3 in B group. Not sure if I saw you. What does your car look like? What run group? The weather was perfect. I was there Sat also and it starting pouring rain around 11. It was miserable.

I saw your car. It looks great. I was only there on Friday. It was a great day. I was driving an interlagos blue sedan. I was in the red D group.

Yea I saw your car too. so you ran the x pipe with a stock rear section and no issues? Good to know. I've been thinking of getting a quad resonated x pipe paired with my MPE but was worried about not meeting the noise rqmt.

I spoke to someone else there who said he was running a catless xpipe with the MPE. He's an advanced driver too so it means a bit more.

I tried to ask as many people as I could. Another person said that sometimes it's not only the volume of the sound but the tone. Certain exhausts make the meter spike more than others. Also on humid or foggy days an exhaust can sound louder. Not sure how true any of it is.
