Want to run either a 305/25/20 or 285/30/20 on a 10.5" wheel... advise please

I am looking for some last minute advice...

I am looking to run either the 285/30 or 305/25 tire size for my rears, so I am would like to hear some opinions on the ideal offset to run this set-up without any rubbing. My wheels are going to be 10.5" wide, and I am thinking of having the offset around +21. I know 295/25 works without a problem as that is what I am running now on a 10" +15 (same fitment as a 10.5" +22), but they are just too thin.

Any help would be appreciated.

TIA!

I'm going to try and run a 305/30 in the rear with an 11" tire. These tires were run on this setup previously:

Not sure of the offsets of the new rims (so not sure if this helps you) but I can advise what happens tomorrow night.

If you're looking for a taller sidewall, the 285/30 is a bit taller than 305/25. IIRC, 285/30 is about 1/2" taller overall so its 1/4" more sidewall. I run 285/30/20 on a 10.5" wide wheel but my offset is not that aggressive (ET28).

He's talking about 20's and you are talking about 19's. I don't think a 305/30/20 will fit but a 305/30/19 will. I had 305/25/20's on my last set of wheels and did so because I had 11" wide rear wheels (thinking 285's would have been too stretched). I would probably go for the taller side-wall of the 285/30/20's with a 10.5" wheel.

The thing is that the 285/30 is really, really tall. I would love to use that tire over the 305/25, but it seems the 305 will be easier to fit because its shorter. It seems that the guys who fit the 285/30 are not running very aggressive set-ups.

I was hoping to get some specs from people who have ran an aggressive 10.5" wide rear 20" wheel with either a 285/30 or 305/25, and whether or not they are rubbing or not. I have pretty much settled on going with a 10.5" +21 and 9" +18 in the front (probably too late to change the specs anyway), I just want to make an "educated" tire choice....

I had 20 x 11 et 29 with 305/25/20 P-zero Nero's without any rubbing. The outer edge of my wheels were within 3 mm of your planned width/offset. The extra width of my wheels may have helped with fitment. I also think the Pirelli's run a little narrow.

I think I would go 285/30. You might be conerned about how tall the tire is but I believe when you actually fit the tire over the wheel, you'll be fine. Depending on what brand tires you purchase, the 285 will have a slight stretch(I ran 285/30/19 PS2s on 10.5" width wheel) and maybe that slight stretch will be just enough for you to fit . I'm going to be running 285/30/20 on a 10" width wheel if that makes you feel any better... Choose wisely on tire brand. That'll prob make all the difference.

Your set-up is actually only 2mm off from mine @ 10.5 +22, so your set-up is definitely quite close. As you said, the only difference is that on your 11" wheel, the 305 is more stretched than it would be on my set-up. Does it look like you have much room back there? Is the clearance close? Are you dropped?

Definitely appreciate your feedback!

I agree- brand will definitely make a difference. I was thinking possibly trying the Hankook V12's this time around, but i am worried as they are a bit more square than the "rounder" brands like pirelli or toyo.

I'm running 285/30 Vreds and it looks like there's a bit of room that I could go to 295/25 easy and maybe even 305/25. The only problem is that with a 10.5" wheel, a 305 will probably be more squared off so your choice of tire brands will be important. Pirellis are known to work and probably Nittos although I'm not a big fan of those. Vreds look like they could work based on my setup.

Have you ever tried a spacer with your set-up by any chance? I also considered going with vreds as I run them on my powdercoated zcp wheel set-up and love them. I am not sure, but I think the vreds run narrower than other tires (in the same width) BUT at the same time have one of the more squared off sidewalls... That is my only reserve with ordering those with this aggressive set-up.

I don't know if I mentioned, but right now I have a 10" +15 (same effective offset as I am going with my new 10.5" setup) wheel with 295/25/20 ps2 with no rubbing. There is a fair amount of clearance as the 295 is super short. No idea how it would be with a potential drop + .5" wider wheel which will stretch the tire out a bit + larger tire. The 295/25 is probably the safest tire choice for the most aggressive 20" wheel set-ups IMO

I am dropped on Eibach's. See the pictures in the thread below to judge how much room I had. It looked to me that I could have fit 315's but again I think the Pirelli's run a little narrow (or have a rounded side-wall).

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...ight=fall+pics

I now have 19 x 10.5 et 22 with 295/30/19 AD08's and have had some rubbing. The AD08's run wide and square. It has shown me how much variation is actually present in tires. Between the square tires and narrower wheels (less stretch) the fitment has become much tighter.

I hope this helps.
