Skidpad Public Service Announcement
I just switched over to my winter wheel/tire setup the other day and noticed a lot of superficial cuts and slashes in the tread of my Pilot Super Sport rears as I removed them. It's most likely due to the car control clinic I did several weeks ago at Lime Rock, where we did wet skidpad exercises and lots of powersliding around a wet autocross course.
I'm not surprised--it makes sense that sliding a tire across rough asphalt on the autocross course would tear it up a bit, even when the surface is wet. And the marks look superficial enough that they're probably not harmful. But I thought I'd post this so that others would be aware that taking brand-new, expensive tires to a car control clinic could slash them up a bit.

Thanks for posting, this is good info. I also was on the wet skid pad recently but I didn't notice any marks like these. The skid pad is great fun though and very humbling on the first try.
