Thumbs up 3-series / M3 C&D 10best award for the 27th year!

No matter how much people complain about each M3 getting heavier and more "fail", its good to see it still a favorite! And for the 335i it's very impressive considering a lot of people think the 1 series does the same for less money in a tighter package.

Anybody know what the consecutive year streak is (27?) and what cars are #2-5? I imagine the Vette is #2?

OP, the 3 series/m3 has not won 27 times. it won 18 consecutive times. 27 is the number of years car and driver has been choosing 10 best cars.

Other venerable returnees include the Honda Accord, recognized for a record 23rd time, and the BMW 3-Series, making its appearance on the Car and Driver list for a record 18 consecutive years. The Porsche Boxster/Cayman and Mazda MX-5 are on the 10Best list for the tenth year each. Rounding out the winners is the Volkswagen GTI, honored for the fourth time.

It's the whole 3 series that wins here, not the M3 by itself.

The M3 rides the coattails of the 3 series lineup here. No way M3 wins on its own merits.

3Series/M3 for the win!

I was really glad to see the GTI up there because I recently just bought one after test driving it. The build quality is phenomenal and it has a great gearbox/engine.. One of the funnest/most practical cars I've ever driven

They aren't rank ordered 1-10. Each car is selected for different catagories.

Years ago, they used to required the 5 of the Cars to be American. Do they still have any kind of similar quotas when they put together this list?

M3 is a 3-series.. hence it's catagorized together. it's just the top model of all 3s.

How do you define "American"?

Made in the US, or by one of the big 3 regardless of country of origin?

It's probably too hard to define these days.
