Expected price for 6MT transmission fluid change?

Hoping someone more knowledgeable can help me out. Was just quoted $700 for this job (indy). From what I can find searching, this price is more in line with the DCT fluid change, but I was under the impression that the 6MT was relatively cheaper.
While we're at it, what should the differential fluid change typically cost?
Thanks!

Wozer...

You do need to remove a heat shield (2 mins), drain the fluid, activate the cooler pump (autologix makes it easy - you can jumper the pump to +12V as has been said - procedure calls for 30 seconds of pump on when draining) and then put stuff back together... All told it should take 1 hour max, if you include a coffee break. Fluid is not terribly expensive either (I used Redline D4-ATF - $65).

$700 is ridiculous for a 6MT fluid change.

Parts for this job are less than $200 and the job takes less than 1hr to complete.

(3) BMW MTF - Part # 83222339221

(2) Transmission Plug - Part # 23117531356

Takes 2 1/2 L and you replace the two plugs.
It's also recommended to change the filter if its in bad shape.

Transmission Filter - Part #17212283111

That's seriously strong and you may be better off taking it to a dealer. That's like double +.

Thanks guys. I'm guessing I got a rushed response from this shop and they just assumed DCT. Regardless, I'll be getting quotes elsewhere. Will update when I do, just for anyone else's future reference

Took me a hour to do this and the diff. That price is extremely high. Should cost less at a indy. $200 in fluids and 1 hour worth of labor.
Don't forget to check the trans filter. Mine was very clean when I took it out.

You can either pick up the bigger bottle of the LT-2 75w-80 or use the LT-3 75W-90 as well.

Yeah, if you can lift the car this should be cake.
Just did oil, trans, and diff and all three took me about an hour.
The trans and diff just take a little longer since you have to pump the fluid in.

This is a trivially simple procedure that requires only common hand tools, a jack and jack stands. Also, an Autologic isn't really required to bleed the transmission pump and heat exchanger. I replaced both drain and fill plugs, examined and cleaned the screen filter (resurfaced the aluminum crush washer), and actuated the pump with a 10' strand of solid network cable that I inserted into the female end of the connector and reconnected to the pump. It was then briefly connected to the positive battery terminal under the hood. This method was used this to actuate the pump for about 3s at a time until fluid stopped draining from the transmission drain port.

After re-inserting the drain plug and filling, the transmission pump was actuated for brief intervals until it was primed and recirculating fluid again. A small amount of fluid was topped off and the fill plug was re-inserted and torqued to spec.

At most, it probably took an hour to perform the entire procedure and I used about 2.5L of fluid. While you're in there, you may as well extract the fluid from your brake master cylinder, refill, and bleed your clutch. If you've flushed your brake fluid recently, you can simply open the bleeder with a catch bottle and pump the pedal manually with your hands 5-7 times or until you see the clean fluid flow to the catch can. It won't push enough hydraulic fluid to drain the master cylinder.

As others have mentioned, the the cover on the transmission is also easily removed. There are five trim screws, two bolts and two stamped trim retaining nuts for a total of 9 fasteners to remove the cover -- all are readily accessible.

For whatever it's worth, I crafted a fluid pump using a 1 gallon HDX garden sprayer, a length of vinyl tubing and a brass barbed fitting (Total of about $16). The discharge tube was extended and the spray nozzle was cut off. I also heated the black tube into a J-hook so it would hang from the fill port of the transmission while filling. At that point, you can simply pump air into the garden sprayer and wait patiently out from under the car as the pressure drives the fluid on your behalf. As soon as you see the fluid flow from the fill port, just open the pressure relief valve on the side of the sprayer reservoir and the flow will stop.

$700 is ridiculously expensive, You can get 6mt fluid change kit from ECS for about $60, manual filter is about $50 and a local shop told me $50 for fluid change.

Just a quick follow-up for anyone who was curious: after getting quotes of $500-700 from several shops in San Fernando Valley, got both done (trans and diff fluids) for $230 by Ingolstadt West in Canoga Park. My first time using them and experience was fantastic in every aspect.

LMAO, what a rip-off.

It's 1-1.5 hours of work for any remotely competent mechanic. Even if you pay MSRP for the fluid, I can't see this being more than $300.
