97 M3 E92 6MT vs 2010 M3 E92 DCT

I am about to take the plunge, and need to decide between second-hand M3 and new M3.

The second hand one is two years old, has 13,500 miles, I know the owner and the car is in very good condition. It has a configuration that I am not crazy about:
- black paint
- black leather
- no PDC
- 6MT
- no comfort access
- out of warranty already

The new one obviously will have the options that I want:
- a color combo to my liking
- DCT (my 335i is 6MT but I would like to try the DCT)
- warranty

The price difference between them is ~ 24,000 euro.
Financially, I can afford either one, but my dilemma is: is it worth it spending additional 24k euro for a new one just for the color combo and DCT and for the feeling of a new car?

What would you do?

I am a bit unsure about paying 24k euro for two years warranty...especially because this is not going to be my daily drive, so my mileage is likely to be very low.

I'll talk to the dealer, maybe they can extend the warranty for some amount of cash.

Other reasons to get the new one?

Even if you can afford it, 24k euros (~ $35.7k) is a lot to get the car that has DCT and is 2 years newer. The greatest depreciation hit happens within the first 2 years of ownership.
With a '10 model you'd also get new iDrive, but otherwise that's pretty much it.

Is DCT, warranty, and new iDrive worth the difference in price? Only you can answer that.
If 24k euros is pocket change to you, you're some kind of millionaire, then sure, go ahead and get a new one.

Since you're asking my guess is that 24k is not insignificant for you - so my advice is to save your money.

Maybe don't jump on first 2nd hand car you found.
Find one with the color combo and options you want. You make it sound like it's either that particular car or the new one, while there are plenty used M3 to choose from.

Your advice makes a lot of sense, thanks a lot.

The reason why I am fixated on that particular 2nd hand M3 is that I know the owner and how he treated the car....otherwise I wouldn't venture with a second hand M3 for obvious reasons.

Guys,

I pulled the trigger on the 2007 E92 M3 6MT...yesterday I drove the car....the words are not enough to describe the feeling...and the car is in mint condition!!!

And it feels so much faster than my 335i, at every rpm range...who is talking about lack of low-end torque in M3, they don't know what they are talking!! The M3 is brutally fast.

If everything goes well, tonight I may drive my M3

Congratulations!

And think of all the superchargers you can install with 24k Euros...

Congrats!

I am not sure if the vehicle you are buying is US spec or Euro soec. I have about 15 months left on my US spec M3's warranty as it lives in Europe and is under the 2 years only coverage that is provided.

My military sales representative was to obtain further information about extending the warranty as I may be here through 2013. I am not sure if you have to the original owner, but it may be worthwhile to find out prior to shifting ownership completely. I am not sure if can extend a warranty on Euro-spec vehicle but it may be worth finding out to give you that piece of mind.

Since my M3 is in storage, I keep forgetting to run this one down. I am in Texas for the next two weeks, so I am not sure if I can get any information in the near future.

Perhaps some other folks could chime in?

The new one for no other reason than it's DCT and for all it's possible shortcomings it's still a better option than a manual.

I thought those were the very early models in Europe. In the US it came as a 2008 model.

Way to go that would have been my recommendation. Didnīt know there was a 2007 version. I bought mine in late 07 but is an 08.

+ 1 We here in north america have it good (Warranty + Maintenance 4yrs/50K Miles) and still bitch about high prices

However, the M3 E92 was relased as a 2007 Model in Europe.

Just like the new S-Class was released as a 2006 model in Europe and 2007 in NA.
