I hear aFe is releasing an intake soon for the M3, I'll be interested to see what this has to offer.

I'm running a GRUPPE M RAM Intake system and am loving it. Its a tad steep in price BUT swear by its quality and incremental gains before I further fitted my exhaust and X-pipe system. Unfortunately I didn't dyno my car then BUT the car felt more comfortable through the entire RPM ranges.

BUT as Nick has mention, AFE are releasing a system soon... so I reckon, hang in there and look around what you think suits you.

I've attached pic of my engine bay and also some pics of system from the GRUPPE M site. Hope this helps

If you are doing this for power, I don't think anyone has shown an intake on the new US M3 to make more power than just replacing the air filter with one without the stock charcoal element.

Its approximately USD1,500 after my 25% discount that I got direct from Jpn. To me the downer was the price. I know its ridiculous but I suppose that the major cost was centered around the CF moulding etc. I am very sure there are other awesome intakes out there.

Not sure if BMC have a system.

The problem with GruppeM is that it's a wet laid carbon piece and the longevity of the carbon is not certain. I have seen kits that have delaminated in Mercedes, as well as in a 335

With the shitty exchange rate, that's almost 2800 dollars US. They'll free ship it if you register on their site (they'll send you a coupon code)

Cheaper on Yahoo Shopping in Japan, but still close to 2500 before ship

I am basing it the cost on Brunei Dollars and am converting the cost via a conservative USD rate. i.e: BND2440 / 1.5 = USD1626

The time I purchased this was in September 2008.

Interesting... but i suppose its also relative where you in the world you live based on climates etc. This is only a hypothetical guess, cos my cousin has had his GRUPPE M system in his E46 ///M3 since day five of owning his 2004 SMG-II and its still looks spanking new.

You may be right though about the de-lamination / longevity though BUT I am only guessing that it may also boil down to engine bay upkeep etc. When we (cuz and I) detail our cars monthly, we ensure that the engine bay is cleaned up properly by the detailers.

I know its literally day light roberry and darn right rude, yet sucker like me who've always wanted an ///M saved up for one. BUT I am happy with decision though.

It sounds pretty awesome when you're pulling hard... the air rushing into the RAM sound like madness. Once I get my ECU back mid-next week, I'll try to do a video to see if I can nab the sound of the intake and exhaust combo.

I think Gruppe M looks good , but as Pencil Geek mentioned it is better to save money and just get a good filter and to leave your air box.

I had Gruppe M on my 330 long time ago and the only cool think was about that CAI is the sound. I didn't gain any hp and to pay so much money just for the sound wasn't worth it.

Gruppe M is overrated and overpriced.

Alot of dough for show, but no extra go.

+1, at the end of the day, it's a cool looking piece of CF laminated fiber glass

I have been driving stock car for a while before installing my GruppeM intake. There is abslutely no doubt the car pulls much better through the rev ranges, esp from mid-high where I have always felt it being constrained. That aside, I have not done any dyno so I could be wrong even if there are no gains. But butt feel is definitely a much faster slingshot after 4k rpm. I would expect better gains with a much free-flowing exhaust system. But the growl after 4k rpm is just to die for.

As mentioned in above, Gruppe M is very steep in price, and by the time I purchased it, the exchange rate from Japan to US had increased tremendously. However, I was looking for something unique and the Gruppe M caught my attention. I also haven't dyno the car but I am satisfied with the looks, sound and (bearly noticeable) gains ^^.

+1 for GruppeM. The exchange rate is killing the price now. The people saying you pay only for the carbon look have no idea how it SOUNDS. That is what's amazing. The CF looks great, but you only really understand how good their work is when you see their titanium exhaust first hand, that is a lot more impressive.

aFe is also world renowned for making intake kits, just like GruppeM, right?

It's not really difficult to use a filter that will allow more air + other stuff through to get some money from M3 owners based on a few HP. I would not use a non K&N or known company's filter on my cars.

well, if you are paying $2500 for it to SOUND cool, than you are definitely buying it for a wrong reason ...

About their work ... I saw a few Gruppe M Ti exhaust systems that cracked like nuts ... Saw a few CF CAI made by them that turned yellow and didn't look great at all ... Those are the things you need to think about !

Also K&N filters are not that great, their filters were on the 6th place out of 7 that were tested.

Dinan is coming out with the Intake system soon and they left everything the way it is and only changed the filter and another small part ... it should be out very soon ...

Bottom line is , save your money and get a $100 filter with the better air flow rate ... It will sound cool, and will help you to gain a few hp ...
