Cleaning 19" wheels

Hi,

I washed my M3 today, and it took just as much time to clean the wheels as to wash the car. Have you found any tricks/special brushes that make it easier??

Thanks!

Try researching different brake pads. There are some that don't leave that much brake dust vs. the OEM pads that come with the car. On my previous 325 I did that and it made a huge difference. 5 days of driving was like one day from OEM pads.

Ironically I'm so clean with my cars that I washed my wheels every time I washed my car anyway. Even when it wasn't that dirty.

i'd use gloves to use them, but tough to get in there. dustless pads historically have been known to perform less

I found a two brushes that help alot. One is a thin brush that fits in the space between the parallel spokes and a second longer brush that I use to clean the inside of the wheels. Still a pain but a bit less painful.

I used Zaino AIO on the wheels. Working great so far.

good idea.

I would say they are not the easiest wheels to clean - however they are also not the hardest.
I used a wheel brush with soft bristles about 2 inches long and then a wet hand towel with soap slipped in between the spokes,

I bought the BMW brush set at the dealership. The small one is perfect between the parallel bars. Still time consuming btw

I have yet to receive my car so I am not sure but it looks like a pretty straightforward wheel to clean. I use Klasse AIO followed by Klasse Sealant Glaze on my wheels which will make the surface slick. I repeat this treatment every 3-4 months. I use a sponge to clean the wheels with the same wash solution I use on the rest of the car's paint, except in a dedicated bucket. I have a paint brush in this wash bucket to get around the lug nuts, and other difficult to reach places. On my M5 wheels I used a painter's stick with a microfiber towel to clean out the groove in the spoke.

I find it very helpful to have a detailers stool so when I am cleaning the wheel, dressing the tire, and cleaning and dressing the wheelwell I am sitting down and comfortabale.

There is no cure!

Wash it often so and wax it once in a while. This will make it easier to maintain the clean look.

Washing 19s

As others have said, waxing helps. I use an Oxo Good Grips wheel brush for the large openings, but a mitt should work well, too. Getting the area at the rim behind each pair of spokes is the trickiest, but not that hard.

Guys,

If you are reading this you know:

IT IS WORK, IT TAKES TIME, AND IT NEVER STOPS

keeping these machines looking better than the next guys is exhausting.

And no sooner than you've gone 25 miles, it's time to think about the next cleaning.

Good-luck, Peter

P21S Wheel Gel + Swissvax Wheel Brush = $30

any strong citrus based degreaser will work well also.

As a preventative measure I would seal with a Sealant or an AIO.
