B&B (Billy Boat) Exhaust Review with Vids

I did a lot of research on this forum to help me make my decision on this cat-back system. Thanks to all of you who've posted vids and reviews. My goal was to find a system that was good for a daily driver, little to no drone on the freeway, but could wail when you opened it up.

Delivery
The exhaust came well packaged and protected from Redline Motorworks. There was no damage in shipping.

Build Quality
The tips and cans are fully polished and look great. The welds are very nice and the system looks high end. The tips are dual walled, angle cut and appear to be approx. 1/2" larger in diameter than the stock tips. The tips have an OEM fitment look, filling the stock bumper cutouts nicely.

Installation
I just followed the DIY sticky and the install went smoothly. This system is completely bolt on. The fitment is nearly perfect requiring little adjustment to get the tips even.

Sound
The sound is exactly what I was looking for. The tone is deep and agressive, but not over-the-top loud either. It is a "sport" exhaust sound level. I've only had the system on for 3 days, but so far there is no rasp or popping which is great, it's a clean sounding exhaust.

Drone
There is a tiny bit of drone at both 2k and 3k RPMs. To me this is totally livable for a daily driver. The drone typically occurs when accelerating slowly in the "wrong" gear. I haven't ridden in many M3s with aftermarket exhaust, so I can't really compare the drone level to another system other than to say it drones more than stock.

I would recommend this system to anyone who is considering it.

Here are the videos:

Sweet vids. Sounds awesome. I don't think there's anyway to avoid some drone at 2000 and 3000 RPM with this engine.
What wheels are you running and are you lowered? Car looks GREAT.
THANKS!

Great job. Looks like a quality system. A few close-ups of the tips would be cool

Thanks! The tiny bit of "drone" really isn't a big deal. I would imagine that some might consider there to be no drone. My brother actually likes the "drone" I'm referring to, he thinks it makes the car sound better inside the cabin.

The wheels are 19" VMR VB3s (CSL reps) powdercoated gloss black. No spacers or lowering. I love the fitment of the wheels.

What, to spend $3,500 on an Akra system? Like many others, I'm not willing to spend that kind of money for exhaust. This system sounds better than others I've heard that are twice as expensive.

If you're on the fence with this one, I really think you'll like it. I'm not sure that the "clean" sound comes through on the vids.

Nice. I know that X-Pipe will bring a whole new world of awesome to the axle-back, but at this point I'm thinking that I shouldn't go any louder. I fear that the neighbor kids might egg my garage door, my clients will think I'm a douche, or that the cops might pull me over. Who knows, maybe the system will seem too quiet and I'll find myself installing an X-Pipe in the future.

In the videos it sounds neither as aggressive nor exotic as other exhausts. In fact, it doesn't sound much different than stock. But, then again, it's a video. I'll go searching for the Bose headset and replay them on the computer to see if it makes a difference.

BTW, the OEM exhaust drones too. But not enough to bother me in the least. I'm curious now as to which exhaust has no drone. I was under the impression they all did.

One thing I really like about this setup are the tips. I love the way they are cut at an angle. It gives it a classy look, IMO.

Chili, I'm glad you're satisfied with them. Thanks for the post. I believe you're the first to post with a review of the B&B, although I could be wrong.

Cheers.

Yeah, try the head phones. For example, listen to the flybys when I'm coming down the other side of the street. The note is much deeper than stock after I pass the camera.

Sure, I could of purchased a Kreissieg system and shattered glass, if that is what makes an exotic sound. Also, I didn't want any rasp, but rasp could be considered exotic. This is a sport muffler, not race, so the aggressive note is all relative.

I've heard this exhaust at the track, and it's NOTHING LIKE STOCK- not even close. It was one of the best sounding cars there.

No special deal to post a review, vids, or anything of that nature. Just relaying my satisfaction. I mentioned Redline because they gave me a good deal on the system, bought it during the holidays. No funny-stuff going on here. If I didn't like it, believe me I'm the first guy to voice my opinion.

I just measured the tips on this system and they are 3.5" or 88mm in diameter. Is that the same as stock?

Just did a quick search.

Stock is 76mm,
AA 76mm
RPI 88mm
supersprint sport 80mm

Nice comparison pics of the BB and stock here http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...k+exhaust+tips

Been a fan of the BB exhausts for awhile, but the drone on other models at least was quite noticeable.
