I own my own business and let me tell you, when you think the grass is greener on the other side just know you have a lot more grass to mow.

I cant wait to work for someone else again and not have all this responsibility.

Its not really. Ive been open exactly a year and I have yet to make rent. This might not be your case as location is everything and I dont have strong support from T-Mo in NJ. They have a huge hold in CA and do a lot of testing there. You can get a lot of subscribers. Here in NJ people are stuck on verizon and are afraid to switch.

Yes, its ridiculously competative. I rushed into it without doing enough research.

Yeah, and its quite popular having it on my resume. A lot of corporations find the "Entrepreneurial" spirit desirable in their workplace.

Great thread. I have no ideas, no capital, but would want to start a business. Something along the lines of YouTube.

Best advice I can give you is "dont start something thats already been started or youll just have to keep up". Find a demand for something that you can fulfill the need for. Or, make a hobby that you have a passion about into your forte.

Or you can just buy a franchise and hope it works out.

I guess you can say I'm a co-owner/inheriter/working for someone(Dad). I'm his only son and also the only one in the family with a degree so I'm being groomed to take over and currently building above what he was capable of doing. About 25 years ago my dad started a legal delivery service. It grew well enough to support him, my brothers family, and myself. We are now on the verge of a major boom due to the high amount of foreclosures.

Personally I love the position I'm in. We are currently picking up several counties around us as well as adding several employees. If all goes well I hope to retire in about 15 years, I'm 23.

Yup, thats why Im getting my ass out and in a job with a major corporation. Most importantly, its nearly impossible to slack off when youre the business owner.

I want to become a top CEO of a big corp. But I'd also like to own my own business.

I grew up watching my dad build up his company. It's nothing big, just him by himself now. There was another friend with him, but that's another story.

I know the pain my dad went through to make himself into a success. I have more respect for him than he will ever know. He didn't take a vacation for the first 5 years the business began. He's now into the 15th year I believe. Looking to retire soon.

Every time I feel sick or just don't feel like going to work, I think of how hard my dad has worked and having seen him work while very ill gives me the boost to get out of bed. There's no excuse that I can give to not go in, just because I don't feel like it.
