Don't like it, this and a few other factors have me dipping out of the brand after I'm finished with mine.

Same here. Really enjoyed my path from 325iM, 335iM, 550iM to current M3. Love it but can't see myself in another/new bimmer when I'm done with this.

It'll make them less special.

The thing about having an "M" car is that the person who has it KNOWS what they have.

Looks like they have a former Audi guy running things for M and he wants to put out M's like how Audi was putting out S's for ever car.

Next thing you'll see is M X drive for all models and MI3.

I'm with you 100%. My BMW journey began with an e21 320i, went through 2 e30 325is, an e36 325i, an e46 M3, and my current e92 M3. I don't see myself buying another given the company's abrupt departure from machines designed primarily for enthusiast drivers to those pandering to affluant wannabes.

It's bad enough already, but it's going to get even worse- the owners of the 328 who see your M3 and say "Oh hey cool M, I have one too!". No, you just have the "m sport package. The M models used to be much more special and exclusive and that was part of the allure.

BMW makes gobs of money just selling the useless M sport accents to their base cars for people who want the look, but not the performance.

For example, my BIL took on a lease several years ago on an X5 and loaded up with all the M accents to make it look like a X5M. That boat even had the flared fenders and wide tires.

Well, his cousin, who is never to be outdone, went out and got the actual X5M on lease too, and in the same color!!!!

Imagine carrying a lease on a pimped out base model SUV when he and his cousin hung in the same circles.

BTW, the cousin had a 2 mile drive to work...when he actually went to work....so never understood the purpose of getting the M version of a SUV other than good ole oneupsmanship.

My friend who sells for Nissan kept getting upset with me because he couldn't understand how I wanted an M2 so badly but I refused to even look at the M235i at his dealership.

I told him all the differences and He kept saying its M just like the M3 I already own and that he "knows" because it has an M on it... (I'm sure Nissan like Toyota and others simply slap an S on their regular cars and put some sporty front bumper on it and change nothing else) it was as if he didn't believe me, I actually questioned myself if maybe I'm the stupid one settling for nothing less than an actual M car.

Anyway I don't care what other people think my car is or is not, but I'm sure more and more uninterested people will think a new M3 and a M340i are the exact same thing, in fact my friend even tried to tell me that the M235i was better because it wasn't just an M2 it was a M2i variant!!!
