I would love to hear back from those of you with 6MT that benefited from an update - especially dyno results.

I think I have everyone beat for the oldest software - E89X-07-12-515. I've never had an update. I assume there has been no need since I don't have nav or DCT. Dealer will charge 1.5 hours to update - pretty much of a no-brainer I guess.

I had E89X-07-09-520 which was from factory. I needed the wing mirror fold in function, and for that the latest integration E89X-09-06-510 at the time was required.

When it integrated it did the following:
Sequential OBD (K Line, DCAN) - DME/DDE, DSC, DWA, FZD, SMFA, SMBF, and EDC-K

Parallel MOST - TEL/ULF, AMP, VM, ULF-SBX

Hope someone can enlighten me as to what DWA, FZD, SMFA, SMBF, and ULF-SBX stand for.

I am taking the car in for the latest integration on Thursday, before I have the new CIC module with Combox installed thanks to Patryk at Bimmertech.

I'm wondering if my car is running into this dilemma. I have a akra evo+ESS tune and i'm making only 352hp and 250TQ. I read earlier that ESS tunes all their software on the updated 231E. But i'm not sure why my car is putting very low numbers.

Here is my thread on my dyno,

Just to clarify this statement a little more in detail.

People who bought the Direct Flash will not be able to upgrade their software (231E) with the DS setup unless you had it prior to the tune. If you bought the EFlash, then ESS can help you update your car to 231E.

Since I was one of those few who bought the DF prior to the 231E upgrade, here are my options:

-Go to the dealer to get the updated software and then resend my file back to ESS for the updated tune
-Send the ECU to ESS for the update to 231E
-Or pay $295 to get the Eflash setup

I hope this clears up some confusion for the people who has the ESS Tune.

Just got the update done at dealer. $289 after the car feels much better. Well worth the money.

Good to know!
Maybe Roman can chime in:
For those of us who have the ESS tune but using the Direct Flash, If we buy/upgrade the E-flash setup can ESS send us the 231E software update without any other further charges (other than the $295 for the E-flash)?

MyGenius is very limited when it comes to features like this - as it's a switching tool, not an updater.

190E is very old.

I would recommend updating to 231E first, then dynoing to compare before/after tune on 231E.

Update from my post above.

Car feels amazing, almost like new. It just might be the placebo effect, but I feel a slight bump in power. I still need to dyno this beast, so I will report back once I do. One thing I found interesting is the increase on mpg figures. When i used to fill up the tank, the idrive would display 320 miles per tank. I just filled up yesterday and I am now getting 380 miles per tank.

If 190E is old, I have 140E. I'm in ancient age!

I'll dyno my car before and after once I get the 231E file. I just need to figure how to get the 231E.

Just ask the dealer to do it. I paid for two hours of service, came out to $289 flat.

Drop by, I just updated a 130E E90M3 a few minutes ago.

He should be posting in a separate thread about his experience shortly.

Just updated my software with my evolve setup, Sal had the file sent to me within hours of my request along with a new tune. The whole process took 30 minutes and it was straight forward with zero issues.

Impressions:
The first thing I've noticed and the most obvious difference is dct behavior, especially in the auto modes. Whereas before the transmission was sluggish when cold, it now shifts flawlessly when cold and perfectly smooth. It also handles shifts when going from heavy throttle to light throttle (in the midst of a shift) much better. The transmission is perfect now, even shifts from 2-1 at awkward (~10mph) speeds is much improved and the transmission always responds whereas before it would sometimes ignore the command and I'd have to do it again. Slow traffic shifts from1-2 and 2-1 back and forth is without complaint now.

As for power it definitely feels stronger than ever and partial throttle feels much more linear and enjoyable (although this might be partially because of my evolve tune).

I'd recommend everyone do this upgrade, especially if you're dct.

It's surprising that your car was built on 12/11 - I would have expected to see the connected drive functions in your navigation system.

Based on some research I just did on integration levels, I think that your car could have software from around April of 2011. This seems a little far out considering your car was built months later.

Since BMW blocked the programming of BMW Apps as of v43, it's possible that you were on v43 or higher and that those lines of code simply do not show up on later software versions on cars without bmw apps. I find this unlikely, but wouldn't completely rule it out. I never checked your DME software level - can't comment there.

To be honest, without plugging in and checking more in-depth, I can't give you a definitive answer on it.

In terms of 2011.75 cars, they should be coming with 2.43 at minimum, so it's possible that 231E is not in there. Probably 220E which is what I have currently in my car, until I flash it with 231 later today.

2.45 was released most likely in late November, if your car was built a month later I wouldn't be surprised if it had 2.43 or 2.44 - not sure how they roll in the updates at the factory when the car is built, just when they are rolled into the dealerships.

I hope this helps some, and yes - it is very confusing at times because there are so many different integration levels and nuances that play into this.
My friend who is a BMW tech said they are already using 2.46 as of 3/2012.
